6 whole months since this little scamp came earth side into our lives and I cant imagine life without him now.
It's taken me a while to get my head around it & figure out how to not only look after him but myself too while also juggling work. Its definately a work in progress but it's thankfully getting more manageable.
Things I am finding most useful for my own self care at the moment :
💫 Baths - I've never had so many in my life !
💫 Yoga Nidra - invaluable for healing and nervous system reset
💫 Gentle Mindful Movement - nothing crazy just simple and effective.
💫 Writing - even just 2 mins jotting down a few things that have come into my awareness.
💫 Communication - asking for help when you need it and ongoing dialogue with my partner.
Its defo been a crazy but amazing ride so far. If you are post partum and want to experience some nourishment for yourself you can join me for Tonic .ie this Sunday morning for some much needed Mama self care x

We've no decent pics so I suggest a baby photoshoot. 'It will be fun' I say and I was wearing a dress for the first time in a long time.
First attempt and he ends up puking on me 🤪 We got one decent one in the end!

It Takes a Village is my offering for all the new mamas out there who are experiencing motherhood through a pandemic.
Its a space for healing, connection and support, all of which have been very sparse or missing completely at the moment because of the circumstances we find ourselves in. Never before have new mums been so isolated and potentially lonely for the company and support of their peers going through the same experience.
It Takes a Village to raise a child and support a woman on her road to motherhood. This circle is completely free and complementary. A soul project from my heart to yours.
This is a cause that's very close to my heart. After an honest post of mine recently I received so many messages from different women telling me they felt the same way. Some women felt overwhelmed, unseen and disconnected. Some women had not even had the opportunity to introduce their new baby to their parents.
Please tag and share this with all the new mothers that you know and let's create a space for each other together. You can book your space through .ie x

HOME BIRTH: I knew it was the right way to go for us. I was fit and healthy with no complications. I wanted Andrew to be by my side and with us for the whole experience. I wanted to feel everything, to hold my own pain in my own space, to acknowledge the sacredness of the experience.
There was a reverence for me that needed to be observed. The clinical masks and bright lights made my heart beat too fast and my womb clench.
As I went through the process of preparing for birth with my amazing midwife .ali.dublin I had insights and revelations about my own blood line and lineage. With Ali’s support and guidance I wanted to bring forth this life into love and support and openness and light. I was not only doing this for me and my baby but for my mother and my mother’s mother and those who came before.
It was my way of acknowledging and allowing the wounds of their past to be seen, felt and healed. As we made our way through the surges and into the unknown I felt like I was in the centre of a vortex. Power and vulnerability, intensity and support like that I had never known before and all of this wrapped up in one body, about to become two. I still get goosebumps And with most things natural and powerful there are risks. But I had great trust. I trusted my body, I trusted my team Ali and Andrew and I trusted our baby.
The reality is that the unforeseen cannot be anticipated and birthing is not predictable or linear and we had to bow to that.

NEW MUM REALITY -
Baby crying, just puked on me, hair not done, no make up on, bags under my eyes, house messy and feeling pretty ughhhhh....
To all you mamas who manage to get your hair and make up done and get pics of your baby in a cute outfit,
I salute you. I'm hoping to have one of those days soon!
To all you mamas who are lucky to brush their hair and wash their face in the morning, who feel overwhelmed, overtired and overlooked - you are not alone. You are not doing anything wrong and there are so many women feeling just like you do.
It's hard to find support at the moment with Covid so use the resources you have. Try and find a few minutes to yourself to do a short meditation or yoga nidra. Get some fresh air or read a page of your book. If you have a partner maybe they can mind the baby in the evening while you do an online class. To those who are doing this on their own you have my utmost respect and admiration.
However your feeling today let's keep it real guys. There are women out there who are feeling all the things you are too x

Do you keep up with the news ?
Although its good news today with the new president of the US being inaugurated, I don't think I am the only one at this time wondering whether it is a good thing or bad thing to keep up with the news...
Years ago I completely avoided the news and happily lived with my head in the clouds or stuck in the sand. As time went by I preferred to keep up to date with world events and politics and realised my yoga practice and teaching was a way to subtly yet actively influence the world we live in even on a micro level.
Today as I keep myself grounded and earth bound in this crazy world, I don't know if keeping up with the news is actually informing me or is it just divisive propaganda designed to create mistrust?
What I do know is that after watching or listening to the news most of the time I don't feel very positive.
I know they say knowledge is power but does that mean inaccurate knowledge is disempowering?
Do you listen to or watch the news?
If so is it helpful ? If not why not?

As a new mother
As an 'illegitimate' child of the 80's
As an Irish woman
I stand in solidarity with those who were put through the hell of mother and baby homes. Our country and our church carry this stain, this shame that cannot be brushed under the carpet anymore and must be attoined for. Those that needed protection and support were abused. Those that were innocent paid the ultimate price.
Now at least those who were once voiceless are now being heard and the forgotten are now being remembered...

Ikigai - roughly translates in Japanese as Reason for Being. Something along the lines of your Dharma in the yogic tradition.
Years ago, when I used to wear pencil skirts and high heels (🤣 ) I didn't have a clue what to do with my life or what I could do to make myself happy - I just knew that I wasn't.
I had a choice - either get on with it and resign myself to the life that I was living or take a long hard look at where I found myself and make the decision to change. Both options terrified me but ultimately the idea that I could find myself at 60 doing the same thing and never evolving scared the pencil skirt right off me.
I spent a lot of time sitting with the discomfort of facing into the unknown but I knew I was doing the work that was imperative to finding out what I should be doing to actually be of service to the world and also to myself.
I love the concept of Ikigai where your purpose, passion and profession come together to create the ultimate sweet spot where all the elements of you converge into the perfect point of your very own reason for being & its never too late to figure it out 🦄

From my little family to yours ...
Happy New Year!
What a messy weird year 2020 has been.
Although we were lucky enough to have Sonny come into our lives his year, there has been pretty stressful and challenging moments throughout, as a business owner, going through a first time pregnancy and as a new mum.
I know I definitely not alone and so many of you were also in similar or perhaps more difficult situations so here's to a brighter and lighter 2021.
Hopefully as the new year progresses we will begin to come back to some sense of normality and emerge kinder, more resilient and with a renewed sense of gratitude & optimism.
Please excuse the ladder in my tights here, I did well to get a dress on 🤗🍾

Just a little reminder as you scroll today:
Close your eyes...

Take three deep breaths...

And then log off .
If scrolling is not making you feel good and you find yourself comparing lives with other people - you are not alone.

If certain accounts don't help you to feel good, then unfollow. Half if it is BS anyway!
If certain apps don't help you to feel good then log out for a while or longer!
We all deserve to feel happy and you are more than enough just as you are x
