Samadhi Covid-19 Protocol:

If you feel unwell, have any symptoms of Covid, a cold, flu or any other communicable illness, or have been in contact with a covid-19 case please do not come in for class. We have online classes which you can do from the comfort of your home.

We will take the temperature of each student (and teacher) before each class, with a contactless thermometer. Anyone with a temperature will be asked to leave.

Our booking system logs all attendance and allows for contact tracing.

Please arrive changed and in yoga gear, and avoid the changing area if possible.

Please arrive just 5 minutes before class.

We recommend you wear a mask coming into Samadhi. You are welcome to wear a mask or visor during class.

There is a hands-free hand sanitiser dispenser inside the studio door in Drogheda and hands-free hand sanitiser dispensers at the front door and outside both studio doors in Temple Bar. Please use!

The yoga studio will be disinfected, door handles, surfaces and stair rails will be regularly sanitised, but we ask you to avoid their use if possible. Your teacher can open and close the door, to avoid cross-contamination.

Each session will last for not more than 75 minutes, at which point we ask you to gather your yoga gear and leave the building. The room will be fully sanitised between each session.

There will be no hands on adjusting or assisting in class.

There are no studio mats available, and no props. If you need props, you must bring in your own, and you must bring in your own yoga mat.

We have put floor markings on the studio floors so that students can clearly and easily remain 2 meters apart at all times. We ask all students to all face forward so that they are never facing each other.

Windows will be kept open at all times, to allow for free flow of air. With that in mind it is worth bringing an extra layer of clothing.

🏃‍♀️ M>O>V>E... On. The. Daily 🏃‍♀️ Getting adequate physical activity is absolutely fundamental 💯 to good health and overall wellbeing 💪
Even so, the majority of adults don't meet the basic physical activity guidelines of 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity per week. And, research now shows that ❗even where these guidelines are met, the sedentary nature of work, and commuting times - often 7+ hours per day sitting is equally damaging to overall health❗ (refs in 1st comment below)
🔸️Getting your MOVE on benefits cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health; as well as mental health and overall quality of life. It reduces risk factors for overweight and obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and a range of cancers (WHO)
So you may not like running or going to the gym... but there are more ways to move, and be active like gardening, dancing, yoga, swimming - or even the most simplest thing to do - WALK!
Introduce 🏃‍♀️movement minutes🏃‍♀️ throughout your day:
✅ take a walking break during your lunch - it gets you outside, into natural light - 15 minutes daily adds up to 75 minutes per week!
✅ if you sit down at a desk - get up walk around every hour - you get a screen break, and move
✅ if you take a bus or luas for your commute - why not get off a stop earlier?
✅ take the stairs as often as you can
✅ doing the weekly shop? Park your car further away from the entrance

If you want to build it up more
➡️ consider walking or cycling to work even 1 x day per week
➡️ make it social - team up with a friend to attend a yoga, dance or fitness class
➡️ is there a local parkrun - they are family friendly, volunteer led and a great way to get outside, get social and get moving in a fun, non competitive environment
➡️ look for classes, clubs or groups in your local community
➡️ if you can afford it - consider sessions with a personal trainer

Getting from FOMO to JOMO - less stress, more time, better sleep 💯 - the joy of missing out and getting offline 📵📵
⭐ The smartphone has been an amazingingly useful invention. Everything is now, quite literally, in the palm of our hand. In many ways it’s made our lives so easier – but in other ways we have allowed ourselves to be owned by this piece of technology.
⭐ In Ireland – we check our phones on average 57 times per day; and 40pc of Irish people look at their smartphones within five minutes of waking, and three quarters do so within half an hour. Reliance on smartphones has contributed to the “always on” culture that’s a driver behind so much stress and anxiety 🤯🤯 When we look at our phones within minutes of waking – messages, emails, news, scoial media feeds- we are sending our bodies straight away into the reactionary “fight or flight” mode – before we even get up to start our day 😱
📵 Setting Boundaries 📵 Most modern smartphones now have inbuilt digital wellbeing functions in the phone settings allowing you to schedule do-not-disturb time, turn your screen to grey scale - and gives you the amount of time you spend on your phone, and individual apps daily... this was eye opening for me! I found I spent way more time than I'd thought on my phone... 👎
⭐ Start with one thing and build: One of the simplest things we can do is to 🔸️switch off notifications🔸️ If you don’t hear the “ping” or see the flashing light or the little red bubble, you are immediately freeing yourself from having to *react*... ✅ You are now setting boudaries, and taking control of when you want to read messages ✅ If this feels like a big step for you - start with switching off notifications from one app this week, add another next week and so on.
📣 📣 check out for tips on managing digital stress. As well as starting to limit our notifications Carrie also recommends scheduling device-free times during both work and leisure time; separate devices for work and personal use; leaving phones outside the bedroom.

💧💧This one is key! Not just for 'Peak Party Season'! But right the year round! 3💧💧.
⚡Aiming to get 1.5 to 2L of water into you daily is one of the best ways to keep the body functioning as it should...💯
🔸️Drinking water helps maintain the the digestion-elimination process; helps move waste product out of the body, gets nutrients to your cells, and helps keep your skin healthy.
🔸️Drink at least one big glass of water first thing in the morning - before breakfast, coffee or tea.
🔸️ If you are working out - drinking water after exercise to avoid deydration and help the muscles repair
🔸️Enjoy your festive beer or vino - but have a drink of water on the side - matching each alcoholic drink with a glass of water. It helps mitigate the de-hydrating effects of alcohol, and the morning-after the night before horrors! Also, you'll tend to drink less as you're more full!
🔸️ Invest in a non-BPA refillable water bottle to keep and carry with you when you are out and about. Most cafes will fill this for free for you too!
🔸️Add a slice of lemon🍋 or lime🍈 to give some flavour if you find the taste of water a bit plain

❤What am I grateful for today? 🙏 A short simple question that has so much power ⭐
🔸️ Neuroscience studies now show that the practice of GRATITUDE physically changes the brain. It impacts positively on the release of dopamine and serotonin. We start to create + change + re-wire the neural pathways that regulate our emotions, thoughts and reactions.
🔸️We can re-program our brains' autonomic response... but it requires work... a CONSCIOUS EFFORT to build these new pathways that lead us to compassion and joy instead of anxiety, fear and anger...
🔸️ Even the simple act of asking ourselves, sincerely, ❓ "What am I thankful for" ❓ is enough to start this positive growth. Its a short question to start and end the day with - but this simple daily practice can give you so much back.
💚 Its a mindset shift. Are you ready? 💚

Breath. The basis of life. Happens without us even thinking.

⭐ It’s the most readily available tool we have in our self-care toolkit. It’s free & we carry it with us where ever we go⭐

🚫 Right now, STOP everything you are doing... Take a long big full belly breath in through the nose. At the top on the inhalation, pause for 3 seconds. And now fully exhale slowly through the mouth - fully relaxing everything on the exhale 🚫 ...
At the end of the exhalation, again pause for 3 seconds. And now repeat. 3 or 4 more times. If you wish, close your eyes while you do the rounds, opening them again when you finish 🚫

Now, how do you feel? Calmer? More relaxed? 😑

When we feel stressed - some physical changes happen in the body:
🔸️the sympathetic nervous system is overactive - in a constant "fight or flight" state
🔸️sustained high levels of cortisol & adrenaline
🔸️ breath is typically up higher in the chest, faster & shortened & physical tension builds in the body

When we take slow full deep abdominal breathing:
🔸️the parasympathetic nervous system, or the "rest & digest" system is activated ⚡
🔸️ stress hormones like cortisol and adrenalin are lowered ⬇️⬇️
🔸️ the heart rate slows & the body relaxes

Breathe Deep. Feel Free.
