How Anxiety affecting our life?

You would be amazed how many people suffer with anxiety on a daily basis. If a person is nervous life can be very challenging. Many people who suffer with anxiety have difficult getting to sleep because they are thinking of the following day and are stressed about work. Lots of people with anxiety are anxious when they are queuing up in the shops, bank, or they panic when they have to travel on the bus.
We are all anxious at some point in our life for example faced with a problem at work or having to make an important decision. This is normal, anxiety disorder is different. Anxiety interferes with the body’s normal and necessary activities. It can result in problems such as migraines, ulcers, asthma, lack of energy, low mood, going to the toilet frequently, increase heart rate, shortness of breath and people may even feel depressed.

Certain events of life experiences can make us more likely to develop problems with anxiety. For example, traumatic events like getting teased or bullied when younger, having a bad personal experience, etc. These are common symptoms of anxiety that people may express.

Anxiety comes in many different forms- such as panic attacks, anxiety attacks, phobia and social anxiety. Many people experience the following.

•Sleep problems.

•Excessive worry – constantly rethinking.

•Muscle tension.

•Irritable bowel syndrome (I.B.S).

•Panic.

•Flash backs.

•Compulsive Behaviours.

•Self- doubt.

•Unable to switch off- mind racing.

•A knot in the stomach.

•Chest pain- tightness in the chest.

•Shoulder pain.

•Headaches.

•Blaming ourselves for things we felt went wrong.

•Holding back.

•Avoiding social occasions due to bad feelings.

How can we control anxiety?

By developing a daily routine, we can reduce the impact of worry, stress and panic in our life.

Breathe correctly – learn to habitually breathe from the diaphragm rather than from the chest. We need to remind ourselves to breathe slower and deeper until it becomes a habit.

And finally, don’t forget to relax. We are tired at the end of the day. Our mind and our body are giving their best to support us in our daily duties. Relaxation is the most forgotten part in our life. It is so hard to turn off the busy mind, to be able to sit down and start breathing slowly. However, everyone needs time to recharge their batteries to keep going in this challenging world.

I have helped alot of my clients with anxiety. As a former client of mine Alex said to me she wasn’t aware she was suffering with anxiety. She just knew life was very difficult and was getting to the end of her rope. And now she is so happy that our paths had crossed and she has a opportunity for a better life.

Please don't keep suffering, back pain. I suffered enough before. I changed.

Maybe it’s your back, or your neck, or your knees. Perhaps it is a constant dull ache, a pulsating throb or a shooting flare.

When we live with chronic pain, we have extra stress to deal with. This causes muscle tension to build up. You might not be aware of this but tension makes pain worse.
Early morning stiffness is also a common problem for people living with back, and neck pain. Basic daily activities can be difficult to start or finish due to the pain affecting your quality of life.

In the morning when you sit up in bed is that just an uncomfortable time?
Many people find bending down is a painful experience. Does getting in and out of your car give you a pain in your hips?

Helpful skills to manage living with chronic pain:

It’s crucial to take time to establish a regular exercise routine. This will help to manage the impact of the pain. Gentle exercise every day is important.

Relaxation reduces the amount of pain you experience. Allow your muscles to relax as often as you can. Relaxation reduces anxiety, frustration and tension. This reduces pain.

Breathing properly is essential. An oxygen-rich body is a healthier body. Breathe in deeply from your diaphragm for a count of 4. Hold for a count of 4. Release. Repeat.

Establish a regular meditation routine. This relaxes any tension in your body. Researchers have discovered that people who suffer fromchronic pain experience a reduction in symptoms of 50% or more through meditation. Take time to listen to soothing music also.

Pacing your daily activities is one of the key tools to self managing pain. Pacing involves being able to do everyday activities without making your pain worse.

PAUL, BIO ENERGY THERAPY & ME – SESSION 1

By the time I had met with Paul Carroll I hadn’t heard of Bio Energy Therapy nor had I any intention of going that route. I had dabbled in other alternative therapies before - Amatsu, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine - and though somewhat curious to know more about Bio Energy I was hesitant to go chasing another promise sounding therapy. However, Paul Carroll’s backstory on how he got into Bio Energy Therapy is quite compelling. After a devastating work accident left him facing a life of chronic pain, he had all but given up on reclaiming the active lifestyle he once knew, in martial arts. After many failed operations and procedures Paul’s chronic pain caused a massive breakdown - in his long-term relationship and his mental health. With nothing else to lose, Paul accepted his friend’s introduction to undergo Bio Energy Healing which proved so life-changing - in not only ridding him of years of pain but in forging a career in helping others do the same.

With this in mind, I accepted Paul’s help but remained reluctant - conventional and other alternative medicines had not freed me a crippling fear of dark and death so why would Bio Energy. As a 46 year old woman I felt sad and ashamed of having to keep the light on at night because of frequent night terrors and after all the medications and counselling sessions in the world, that was still my reality. And the knock-on effect from lack of sleep affected every area of life - my relationships, my work and my overall self-worth. Deep inside was a real zest for life but was being blighted by fear. Paul’s words echoed in my head, that Bio Energy was his last port of call and maybe, just maybe, it would prove to be mine.

Session 1

After doing some research on the methods of Bio-Energy I still wasn’t sure what to expect from the session or how the treatment would be delivered. From my conversations with Paul I understood the basics, that its methods was in clearing blocked energies from within the body. Like in other holistic therapies, the chakras (of which there are seven) are the foundations on which our physical and psychic wellbeing are built and their energies flow through and any blockages within each can often lead to illness.

The session itself was part standing, part lying down - as Paul worked to clear blocked energies he’d found within three of my chakras - the Heart, the Sacral and the Root. Interestingly, these chakras house fear, distress and childhood trauma. When asked how the blockages manifested themselves, he explained that when he does a non-touch scan close to my body he feels a static pull to particular areas - and within these areas the blockages lay. The first session took over an hour and during it there was some emotional release, tears flowing, which Paul assures is normal, good and healthy. With eyes remaining closed for most of the session you will expect to feel certain sensations - like tugging, whooshing of air as Paul uses his hands to physically clear the blockages. There’s a pleasant aroma of candles and a sense of real peace that you get with any therapy that involves you staying still and breathing deeply. When the session is complete Paul explains that because the body is now undergoing a detox of sorts that you may p*e more often and that initially you may feel tired but in a few days, great energy will follow. Also, some people may experience bouts of high emotion, particularly anger.

Week one in and yes there was one episode of great distress, anger and night-time terror but surprisingly more moments of pure calm. Anyone who has ever taken anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication will know that wrapped in cotton wool feeling - same feeling except there are no side-effects, now withdrawals. Just being late for an appointment would send me into a tailspin - as feelings of self-defeating failure and letting someone down would be enough to cause distressing panic. Caught behind a tractor this week on the way to a meeting was a strange experience, yes there was still some panic about being late - but not to the degree felt before where I’d burst into tears and not be able to go to the meeting for fear of being judged as an emotional wreck. It’s still week one, I’ve coincided the Bio Energy treatment with herbal anti-anxiety medicines, so let’s see what session two brings. But there’s a definite shift.

Please share ....

Dublin LGFA are passing on this sound advice from Dr Dylan Murray to all our members it is especially aimed at those in the teenage bracket.

Dylan is a doctor working in Temple Street & Mater hospitals and is a LGFA football coach with Clontarf GAA club.

“You all know something of what is going on but there is much more that you need to be aware of. The Corona bug is spreading fast but you guys (teenagers) are safe. Some of you may get the infection - but you won’t even realise you have it and that is the problem!

You see, this virus is not very strong but it gets around very quickly. Strong fit healthy young people are going to be fine even if you do get it, however, what Im going to tell you, is what you need to do for your grannies, grandads, your sick relatives and family members and finally for me and all my mates in the Mater and Temple street.

One of the biggest problems we are going to have is that doctors, nurses and other health care professionals are going to get infected (3 of my friends already have it).

We won’t be very sick and we will be fine in the end, but if too many of us get sick then we won’t be able to take care of the people who really need us (like your grannies and grandads etc).

So what can you do?

Well, yesterday the government announced that schools are to close, there is a simple reason for this and it is called social distancing (staying 1.5 to 2 meters apart). This virus cannot ‘jump’ from one person to the other. If we stay far enough away from each other it can’t spread.

If it doesn’t spread , it dies out very quickly and the epidemic eventually disappears. It is estimated that one person, not realising they are infected will pass it on to three people. If too many people get sick together and need to go to hospital then we don’t have the doctors, nurses and equipment to take care of them.

If however the same number of people get sick but over a much longer period of time then there will be plenty of opportunity to treat everybody and fewer people will die.

Here is where this gets difficult for you guys. “Social distancing” is going to be very difficult for most teenagers.

It is important that you all understand that social distancing needs to be practiced continuously. There is no point being let off school if you are going to congregate and gather in gyms, peoples houses, sleep overs and have parties.

I have spent the last three weeks doing the Wuhan toe tap with my patients and it’s been great fun. We can no longer shake hands or hug when we greet or see each other.

One big advantage of your generation is that you have social media! So you can keep in touch with each other and know exactly what’s going on. But be careful, that you don’t get ‘fake’ information during this crisis.

Some of you will be sitting exams and I know this is very worrying but your teachers, and parents will do their best to help you during this time.

For those of you were not sitting exams (and don’t have baby brothers and sisters) I have another favour to ask– if you know any nurses, doctors or healthcare workers who have young children and might need help with babysitting call around and offer your services, so that their parents can come to hospital to help the sick.

I thank you for taking the time to read this.
Stay safe – and remember if you are sufficiently worried then there’s nothing to worry about BUT if you’re not worried at all then there is everything to worry about”.....
