We have been slowly reopening our face to face services in June and will continue to do so over the coming weeks. We are following strict health and safety guidelines to ensure the safety of both our therapists and clients. We now have appointments available to individuals and couples. We will also continue to offer our services online where clients are not in a position to attend one of our centres in Wicklow Street, Dublin 2, Donnybrook, Dublin 4 and Wood Quay, Galway.
Its been a very challenging few months for all of us and good to be reopening our doors again šŸ˜€

As technology becomes perhaps more important than ever in every kind of human relationship, I found this a brilliantly presented and prescient reminder of how it can lead to our deceiving ourselves; how it can work for or against our relational goals in real life; of the lifelong challenge of learning how to really be with others and how to be alone. Although the technology has moved on since 2012, maybe the basic issues are the same? Interesting to watch this talk with an awareness of the seemingly inexorable rise to dominance of political and business leaders with narcissistic and psychopathic traits.

As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other? Sherry Turkle studies how our devices and online personas are redefining human connection and communication -- and asks us to think deeply about the new kinds of connection we want to have.

"Conversion or Reparative therapy is a range of dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation/gender identity/expression. Such practices have been widely rejected by mainstream medical and mental health organisations...."

I will just leave this here... The longer I work in mental health, the more fed up I become with the 'normalisation' agenda regarding widespread 'recreational' drug use in our young people, especially our young men, and the wilful ignorance of the harm to the developing brain (not to mention the brains of those who are well old enough to know better). Don't even get me started on the general attitude to excessive alcohol consumption. End of rant. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/feb/13/cannabis-smoking-in-teenage-years-linked-to-adulthood-depression

Study finds one in 14 cases in under-35s could be avoided if teenagers did not use the drug

"Is the desire to achieve closure in the courtroom, emotional release and catharsis, working through trauma - ideas extraneous to law and the proper purpose of the courts - threatening the adversarial system as a whole?"

"A child learns about the world by manipulating a toy with his hands, feeling it with his mouth and throwing it on the ground. The child’s brain registers the connections. A small child’s brain cannot develop without this sense of touch and interaction. Light and noise from electronic screens capture a child’s attention, but they do not lead to healthy brain development"

New clinical case studies have found that many young children who spend too much screen time have symptoms labeled as ā€œautism.ā€
