Our CEO Dawn Russell was privileged to meet one of Ana Liffey’s co-founders, Fr. Frank Brady, last week. His activism and hands on work with marginalised communities, people in prisons and people struggling with addiction continue on today. On our behalf, Dawn was able to tell Frank how he is still discussed in all our staff and volunteer inductions. She thanked him for his ongoing inspiration to us all in our work.

He had much to share about Ana Liffey’s origins..he filled in some missing information! There’s more to learn from Frank in the months to come..watch this space 🤩

We had a wonderful offsite day yesterday with many of our Board of Directors and our Senior Management Team.

We took the morning to discuss the impact of each of our frontline services, reflecting on our ethos and values in action. In the afternoon, we discussed our Strategic Goals and the impact they will have on staff and service users once achieved. We reflected on the duties of the Board, on how to operate to the highest standard and the importance of good governance.

Our Chairperson Vivian Geiran, our Directors and all the staff of the Ana Liffey wish to take the opportunity to whole heartedly thank our two outgoing Directors Catherine Comiskey and Jack Nolan. Catherine and Jack have both served full terms as Directors. We thank them both for the diligence and care they have taken during their tenure on our Board. They have both left a lasting impact on our governance and culture.

As Michael D Higgins ends his second term as Irelands Head of State, we wish to extend heartfelt thanks to President Higgins for his leadership, integrity and compassion.

Since 2014, President Higgins has been the Sole Patron to Ana Liffey. His commitment to human rights and inclusive citizenship has given us guidance and hope in times of adversity. His unwavering bravery to speak out in the face of anything that threatens those fundamental rights has inspired and empowered us.

As we look to the future, we are eager to see the next President of Ireland carry this flame forward, standing for our marginalised, traumatised and systematically oppressed citizens.

Go raibh míle maith agat, Uachtarán na hÉireann. Go nÉirí an bóthar leat 👏

We had an amazing Team Development Day in the Osprey Hotel at the end of September! Stephen and his team at Dynamic Events Ireland organised a fantastic day of team building, it’ll be a day we remember for a long time.

All of our staff work extremely hard on the frontline and in our back office to ensure we deliver the best possible service to some of Irelands most vulnerable citizens. Ana Liffey isn’t an easy place to work, but it is rewarding.

It is important for us to support all of our team members to build and maintain strong relationships with one another on Team Development Days. You learn something new on days like this and leave with lots of hilarious memories! Thanks to all our team for making it a wonderful day 🧡
Thanks especially to our Nikitha Honnavara Murali for organising everything and thinking of every little detail!

Yesterday, our Midwest Team Leader Barry Lynch and Senior Project Worker Clodagh Donnellan had the pleasure of training our colleagues from Mid West Simon Community in the HSE Circle overdose prevention programme.

We look forward to supporting the team as they roll out this peer to peer programme across their residential services! This training empowers peers, saves lives and keeps communities safer 🤩

Thanks to Jenny Smyth and NOVAS for the work they have done in building this programme 👏

As Ireland’s next National Drug Strategy is being finalized, we urge the Government to commit to tangible and actionable goals which will support people who drugs across the country.

Watch our submission to the Citizens Assembly to hear more about Ana Liffey Drug Project’s key priorities for the new drug strategy, discussed by service users and staff. These priorities include:

🟠 The establishment of regionally accessible addiction services, to ensure no one has to travel far away from their community for support and treatment.

🟠 Implementation of screening and intervention services for people struggling with issues such as learning disabilities and neurodiversity, alongside their addiction.

🟠 Accessibility of naloxone at the community level.

🟠 The National Drug Strategy needs to be the driver for a whole government approach to recovery. Recovery will not occur organically. We need evidence based recovery interventions, funding and the whole government to prioritize recovery for people with addiction in Ireland. https://vimeo.com/838818139

We know that people struggle to access supports when they are in active addiction. It can be lonely, intimidating and sometimes people don’t know where to go for help.

That’s why we bring our services directly to the people who need them across Dublin and Midwest.

Our VanaLiffey outreach service can be a great first point of contact. Whether you need an assessment, harm reduction supplies or you just need advice about where to turn, you can call our outreach teams on:

Thanks to all the wonderful women who joined us yesterday in our nursing space for our Women’s Health event, part of our Recovery Month celebrations 🤩

Good health is one form of recovery capital. Yesterday, our nurse team and the fantastic Dr. Caoimhe Hartley from Rotunda Hospital created a safe and welcoming space for women to talk about their health needs and learn about menopause, women’s specific health issues and how to protect their wellbeing.

Huge thanks to our low threshold nurse team for organizing this event and to our lovely neighbours who generously sponsored us so we could hand out great goodie bags and treats 💜
