Podiatrists at South Dublin Podiatry Clinic are health care professionals specialised in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of abnormal foot and lower limb conditions. We help in relieving pain, treating infections and keeping people mobile and active. We are passionate about delivering high quality podiatric care to support your individual needs. South Dublin Podiatry Clinicโs owner, Wioleta Walczak, graduated with a BSc (Hons) Podiatry degree from Galway University. She is a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists of Ireland and maintains her professional development by attending courses and conferences. Since graduation, she has worked in a number of private practices, hospitals and nursing homes giving her a great experience in both private and public settings. Her special area of interest includes sports podiatry and treatment of fungal nail infections. You may want to see a podiatrist or a chiropodist for advice and treatment if you experience pain in your feet, have thickened or discoloured toenails, cracks in the skin, abnormal growths, your feet sweat excessively or if you experience any other foot related problem. Our podiatrists can also provide orthotics which are custom-made 3D printed insoles, also known as arch supports, to relieve foot, knee or hip pains. Orthotic devices are placed in your shoes. Their purpose is to re-align your foot, take pressure off vulnerable areas, or simply to make your shoes more comfortable. We can also help you with more complex foot problems including preventing, diagnosing and treating sports and exercise injuries. Even if you feel your feet are generally in a good condition, you may consider one Podiatry/ Chiropody session to have hard skin removed from the soles of your feet, have your toenails clipped, get some advice regarding footwear you are wearing or to simply see if you are looking after your feet properly. The clinic is located at 114 Sundrive Rd, Crumlin, D12 TDX8. It is easily accessible with bus lines 9 and 18 and there is plenty of parking spaces available.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, and if youโve ever felt a sharp, stabbing sensation when taking your first steps in the morning, you may already be familiar with it. But what actually causes this painful condition? Letโs break it down.
The plantar fascia is a strong band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes. Its job is to support the arch of your foot and absorb shock when you walk. Over time, too much stress on this ligament can lead to tiny tears. When the fascia becomes irritated or inflamed, the result is plantar fasciitis.

At South Dublin Podiatry, weโre committed to providing the highest standard of care through evidence-based practice and the latest technology. As part of our Advanced Biomechanical Assessment, offered once a month, we now include ultrasound imaging to assist in identifying underlying foot and lower limb conditions with greater accuracy.

Ultrasound imaging is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of soft tissues, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not involve radiation and can be performed comfortably in the clinic.

Many musculoskeletal issues in the foot and ankle can present with similar symptoms โ such as pain, swelling, or reduced movement โ but have very different causes. Ultrasound helps our clinicians visualise whatโs happening beneath the surface, supporting a more precise diagnosis.

Hammer toe is a common foot condition that can cause discomfort, difficulty wearing shoes, and, if left untreated, lasting changes to your foot structure. The good news is that with early attention and proper care, it can often be managed effectively.

Hammer toe occurs when one of the smaller toes bends abnormally at the middle joint, creating a curled or hammer-like appearance. This condition usually affects the second, third, or fourth toe and can range from flexible (still able to straighten) to rigid (permanently fixed in position).
Several factors can contribute to the development of hammer toe:
Ill-fitting footwear โ Shoes that are too tight, narrow, or have high heels can crowd the toes and force them into a bent position.
Muscle imbalance โ When muscles in the toes are out of balance, they pull unevenly on the joints, leading to abnormal bending.
Foot structure โ Flat feet, high arches, or bunions can increase the risk of developing hammer toe.
Injury โ Trauma to a toe can damage the muscles or joints, resulting in deformity.
Genetics and age โ Some people are simply more predisposed to toe deformities, and the risk increases with age.

When you think of a podiatrist, you probably picture foot problems like bunions, heel pain, or ingrown toenails. But hereโs something you might not know: your podiatrist may also be able to help with knee pain.

Your feet are the base of everything you do, walking, running, standing. If theyโre not working quite right (say you have flat feet, high arches, or your feet roll inward when you walk), that imbalance doesnโt just stop at your ankles. It can travel upward and affect your knees. Over time, this extra stress can lead to aches, stiffness, or even injury.
Some common knee issues linked to foot mechanics include:

Verrucas, also known as plantar warts, are a common foot complaint we see in South Dublin Podiatry, especially among children, athletes, and anyone who regularly goes barefoot in communal areas like swimming pools or gyms. While theyโre usually harmless, they can be stubborn, unsightly, and sometimes painful. Hereโs what you need to know.
A verruca is a type of wart that appears on the soles of the feet. Itโs caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters the skin through tiny cuts or abrasions. Unlike warts on other parts of the body, verrucas are flattened by the pressure of walking and often develop a hard outer layer with a small black dot in the centreโthis is a clotted blood vessel, not a root (a common myth!).
HPV thrives in warm, moist environments, making communal showers, swimming pools, and gym changing rooms ideal breeding grounds. Walking barefoot in these places increases your risk of infection. Itโs also worth noting that the virus can survive on surfaces for long periods, so it doesnโt take much to pick it up.

Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries we see at South Dublin Podiatry, and they can happen to anyone. Whether youโre an athlete, a weekend walker, or simply misstep off a curb, twisting your ankle can lead to sudden pain and swelling. But how serious is it? And what should you do next?
In this blog, weโll cover the essentials of ankle sprains, how they happen, what symptoms to watch for, and the steps you should take to recover safely.
An ankle sprain occurs when the ligaments, strong bands of tissue that support the ankle joint, are stretched or torn. This typically happens when the foot twists or rolls unexpectedly, forcing the ankle out of its normal position.
Most sprains affect the lateral ligaments on the outside of the ankle, often due to rolling the foot inward.
As kids head back to school and dive into sports, many parents start to notice a common complaint: heel pain. If your child is limping after football practice, complaining of sore heels after PE, or avoiding their usual physical activities, they may be experiencing Severโs Disease ,a common cause of heel pain in growing children.
Despite the name, Severโs Disease (also called calcaneal apophysitis) is not a disease in the traditional sense, itโs a growth plate injury. It occurs when the growth plate in the heel (calcaneus) becomes inflamed, typically due to repetitive stress or overuse.
This condition is most common in active children between the ages of 8 and 14, particularly those involved in running or jumping sports like football, basketball, gymnastics, and running.

If youโve ever felt a painful, hardened spot on your foot that makes walking uncomfortable, you might be dealing with a corn. While common, corns can become a real nuisance, especially if left untreated. At South Dublin Podiatry, our podiatrists help patients find relief from corns every day, using safe and effective treatments tailored to your specific needs.
Corns are small, thickened areas of skin that typically develop on the feet due to repeated pressure or friction. Theyโre the bodyโs way of protecting itself, but over time, they can become painful and even lead to other foot issues.
As the school holidays wrap up and families get back into routine, one of the key items on the to-do list is buying new school shoes. While it might seem like just another errand, the shoes your child wears every day can have a big impact on their foot health, posture, and comfort.
At South Dublin Podiatry, we often see a spike in sore feet, heel pain, and posture issues in kids during the first few weeks of term and often, it comes down to footwear.
So before you head to the shops, here are some tips to help you choose the right pair, plus a few things to watch out for once school is back.
Your child will likely spend more than 30 hours a week in their school shoes running, walking, playing, sitting cross-legged on the floor, you name it. A good pair of shoes isnโt just about looking smart or lasting the year; itโs about supporting your childโs growing feet and preventing injuries or pain down the track.
Do you have persistent foot pain that flares up when you walk, stand, or wear certain shoes? It could be more than general discomfort, it might be bursitis, a painful and often overlooked condition that affects the small fluid-filled sacs (bursae) around your joints.
At South Dublin Podiatry, weโre here to help you understand this condition and how it can be managed effectively.
Bursitis is the inflammation of a bursa, a small, cushion-like sac that reduces friction between bones, tendons, and muscles. When a bursa becomes irritated or inflamed, it can cause localised pain, swelling, and limited movement. While bursitis can occur in various parts of the body (like the shoulder or hip), it commonly affects the heel or ball of the foot, especially in people who spend a lot of time on their feet or wear ill-fitting footwear.
