When to worry about weight gain — and when not to
Weight loss in a newborn can send any new parent into a panic. Here is some context.
Some weight loss in the first few days is completely normal and expected. We start to look more closely around the 10% mark. What matters most is the direction of travel — is your baby feeding well and regaining steadily?
A number on a scale is one piece of information. It is never the whole picture.
If you have concerns about your baby’s weight or feeding, please do not sit with the worry alone. Link in bio to book a consultation.

Still sore after working on the latch? This might be why.
Most people focus on getting baby on — but the angle of attachment matters just as much. Chin first, asymmetric, more ar**la below than above. It sounds small. It is not small.
Pain with breastfeeding is common. It is not something you just have to put up with.
If you are still struggling, a proper assessment can change everything. Link in bio to book a consultation.

Hand pumps are becoming a genuinely popular choice for breastfeeding mums — and I do not think that is a coincidence.
Antenatal colostrum harvesting has changed the postnatal landscape. Mums are arriving after birth with real hand expression skills and body confidence that previous generations simply did not have. When a hand pump is then placed in their hands, it already feels familiar — because it is building on something they have already done.
Layer in the cost difference compared to electric pumps, the fact that you can use a hand pump anywhere without noise or a power source, and the more forgiving nature of fl**ge fit — and suddenly the hand pump is not the inferior option. It is just a different one.
Want to go deeper on all things pumping? My Pumping Masterclass is back in April. We cover choosing the right breast pump for your situation, fl**ge sizing, output, and everything in between. Early bird booking is open now and places are moving. Link in bio.

Low milk supply is not a mindset problem.
In this week’s episode, Emma Flynn shares her experience of breastfeeding with IGT (insufficient glandular tissue) a biological cause of chronically low milk production that is still widely misunderstood.
Emma is a midwife and a mum of three. Across her three babies she experienced:• A conscious decision not to breastfeed• Intensive triple feeding and supplementing• And ultimately, a pressure-free feeding relationship built around connection rather than output
Inside the episode we unpack:– What IGT is (and isn’t)– The link between PCOS and supply– When triple feeding helps and when it harms– Protecting maternal mental health– Redefining feeding success
If you have ever been told to “just try harder,” this conversation is for you.
We’re nearly at the end of Series 1 of Spill the Milk one final episode to go before I take a break and return before summer
