Hello all. Helen Casey here I’m hoping you can support. I’m travelling soon with a group of doctors, nurses , pharmacists to Malawi 🇲🇼. I am GP with special interest in women’s health and last year on my visit to Malawi I saw wards full of women having unnecessary hysterectomies. These operations were done with inadequate anaesthesia and high infection risk. In ireland hysterectomy rates were reduced by 80% by introduction of mirena coils . A simple device that goes into the womb to reduce bleeding , very low risk and I do the procedure daily in my GP surgery .
I want to fundraise to bring coils to the hospitals in Malawi . I will train healthcare workers and insert them when I’m there . We have lots of women hoping to have a coil but they’re expensive at €120 each and so I’m running a fund raiser and a go fund me . 100% of funds go to purchase of coils. Hope you can support /malawipartnership
