Homeopathy is built on a simple and compassionate view of healing. It sees the person as a whole, not as a collection of symptoms to silence. Mind, body, emotions, history, and life experiences are all part of one living system, and each deserves to be heard.

At the heart of homeopathic philosophy is the idea that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. Symptoms are not enemies. They are signals, showing how the vital force is responding to imbalance. Rather than suppressing these expressions, homeopathy seeks to understand them and support the body in restoring harmony.

Individuality is central. Two people may share the same diagnosis, yet experience it in completely different ways. One may feel anxious and restless, another withdrawn and exhausted. Homeopathy respects these differences and selects remedies based on the unique pattern of symptoms, not the disease name alone.

Homeopathic remedies are chosen for their ability to gently stimulate the body’s own healing response. The intention is not to force change, but to encourage balance from within. Healing is seen as a process, unfolding at a pace that is right for the individual.

This philosophy also honours gentleness. Healing does not need to be aggressive to be effective. Small, well chosen stimuli can bring deep and lasting shifts, physically and emotionally.

Homeopathy invites listening. Listening to the body. Listening to emotions. Listening to the story behind the symptoms. In that listening, space is created for healing that feels respectful, supportive, and deeply human.

Homeopathy is not about fighting illness. It is about supporting life.

Many of us spend this time feeling happy with our families, but not everyone does. Some people sit at the Christmas dinner table missing their mum, dad, or another loved one for the very first time. Grief can feel especially present during moments meant for togetherness.

Below are some of the most commonly used homeopathic remedies for grief:

Ignatia amara
Often thought of first in acute grief. There may be sighing, a lump in the throat, sudden emotional waves, tears that come and go, or laughter mixed with crying. Feelings are intense and changeable. The person may prefer to grieve alone and feel misunderstood.

Natrum muriaticum
For deep, silent grief held inside. Tears come when alone, not in front of others. The person may appear strong and controlled, yet carries long lasting sorrow, often linked to past losses. Consolation may feel uncomfortable.

Phosphoric acid
Grief with exhaustion and emotional collapse. The person feels drained, flat, and indifferent rather than expressive. Memory and concentration may feel weak after prolonged sorrow.

Pulsatilla
Grief with a strong need for comfort and reassurance. Tears come easily and the person feels better when supported and listened to. There is sensitivity to separation and loss.

Staphysagria
Grief linked with suppressed emotions and hurt feelings. The person may appear calm while carrying anger and sadness inside, often from long held restraint.

Aurum metallicum
Grief with despair, guilt, or a heavy sense of failure. The sorrow feels dark and overwhelming, with a strong sense of responsibility.

Causticum
Grief connected to injustice or unfair loss. There may be deep empathy, long lasting sensitivity, and dwelling on suffering.

Arnica
Useful when grief is accompanied by shock. The person may say they are fine while pushing others away.

Grief is not something to remove or rush. Homeopathy offers gentle support as a person moves through it, at their own pace. For long standing or complicated grief, individual case taking is always best.

The planning, shopping, cooking, organising, caring for everyone else and keeping the atmosphere warm often leaves very little space to rest.

In homeopathy, exhaustion from this kind of overwork often points toward a few familiar remedies.

Kali phosphoricum is often considered when the mind feels overloaded and the body simply runs out of energy.

Nux vomica may suit those who push through tiredness, rush from task to task and feel irritable when they finally stop.

Sepia can be helpful when exhaustion comes with emotional flatness and a strong wish to be left alone after giving so much.

Sometimes the tiredness is not from lack of strength, but from giving without pause. Gentle support and rest matter too.

Remedy Spotlight: Baryta Carbonica

Baryta carb is a remedy that supports those who feel insecure, timid, or overwhelmed by situations that others manage easily. It’s often used in children who seem developmentally delayed, shy, or clingy and in older adults showing signs of confusion, weakness, or forgetfulness.

It’s not about intelligence, but confidence and maturity- the person may hold back, avoid responsibility, or feel smaller than they are.

When to Think of Baryta carb:

• Shyness so intense that the person avoids new people or situations
• Children who are late to walk, talk, or gain independence
• Fear of failure or of being laughed at
• Elderly with memory loss, confusion, or shrinking confidence
• Swollen tonsils or repeated sore throats
• Easily catches colds, especially in damp weather
• Tends to be dependent, passive, or slow to respond

Emotional Picture:

-Baryta carb suits people who feel like they’re always in the background.
-Children might hide behind a parent, avoid eye contact, or cling tightly in social settings.
-Adults may come across as hesitant, lacking self-belief, or acting younger than their age.
-There is often a fear of embarrassment, being judged, or not being “good enough.”

Physical Picture:

• Repeated tonsillitis, especially in children
• Glandular swellings - neck, groin, or behind the ears
• Slow physical development or motor delays
• Poor memory, slowness in thinking or speech
• Chilliness, and worse in cold or damp weather

Please remember: remedies should always be matched to the individual’s unique symptoms and ideally prescribed under the guidance of a qualified homeopath.

19/12/2025

Fever is often feared, yet it is one of the body’s most important protective responses. It is not an illness on its own, but a sign that the immune system is active and responding.

According to World Health Organisation clinical guidance, fever is defined using the following temperature ranges, most commonly measured under the arm in children:

Normal body temperature
Up to 37.5°C

Fever
37.5°C to 38.4°C

High fever
38.5°C to 40°C

Very high fever
Above 40°C

WHO places strong emphasis not only on the temperature itself, but on the overall condition of the person, especially in children. If a child is handling the fever well, drinking fluids, resting, and remaining responsive, supporting the healing process is often more appropriate than routinely suppressing the fever.

Why fever is important
• It slows down the growth of viruses and bacteria
• It activates immune cells and defence mechanisms
• It shows that the body is responding rather than shutting down

The number on the thermometer is only one part of the picture. How the person looks, behaves, drinks fluids, breathes, and responds is often far more important than the temperature alone.

If fever causes significant distress or discomfort, homeopathic remedies can be very helpful in supporting the body naturally, when chosen according to the individual picture.

Commonly used remedies include:

Aconitum napellus
Sudden onset fever, restlessness, fear, often after cold wind or shock.

Belladonna
High heat, red face, throbbing, sensitivity to light and noise, sudden intensity.

Ferrum phosphoricum
Early stage fever, mild to moderate temperature, symptoms not yet clear.

Gelsemium
Weakness, heaviness, drowsiness, chills, desire to lie still.

Bryonia
Dryness, strong thirst, irritability, worse from movement, wants to be left alone.

Pulsatilla
Changeable fever, thirstless, seeks comfort and closeness.

Always trust your instincts. If you are worried, or if symptoms persist, seek advice from your GP or a qualified homeopath who can support you safely and appropriately.

Remedy Spotlight: Drosera

Drosera is one of the most important remedies for spasmodic coughs, especially in children. It has a deep affinity for the larynx and respiratory tract.

The cough is dry, barking and violent, coming in rapid fits that follow one another without pause. Attacks often worsen after midnight and may end in gagging, retching or even vomiting. The child may turn red or blue in the face during the coughing spell and appear exhausted afterward.

A key feature is the sensitivity of the throat. Talking, laughing, singing or even taking a deep breath can trigger coughing. There is often very little relief from expectoration, as the cough remains mostly dry.

The cough is worse after midnight, from talking, laughing, singing, deep breathing and lying down. Better from warmth and sitting up.

Drosera is frequently considered in whooping cough, lingering post viral coughs and night coughs that disturb sleep. The person may seem restless and anxious during attacks but relatively well between them.

Differentiation tip:
Compared to Spongia, Drosera coughs are more violent and spasmodic with less relief from warmth. Compared to Coccus cacti, Drosera has less thick mucus and more continuous coughing without long pauses.

Where do homeopathic remedies actually come from?

Homeopathic remedies come from nature.
Plants, minerals and substances from the animal world are carefully chosen for their unique qualities.

A plant remedy may come from a leaf, root or flower.
Mineral remedies are prepared from elements found in the earth such as salt, silica or metals. Some remedies come from animal sources like bee venom or cuttlefish ink, always prepared with great care and respect.

These raw substances are then processed through a special method of dilution and succussion. This step is central to homeopathy and is what makes the remedy gentle and suitable for people of all ages.

So where do homeopaths get their remedies from?

Homeopaths do not make remedies at home. They source them from specialised homeopathic pharmacies. These pharmacies follow strict manufacturing standards and prepare remedies according to official homeopathic pharmacopeias. Each remedy is carefully made, tested and stored to ensure consistency and quality.

Nature provides the source.
Skilled pharmacies prepare the remedies.
Homeopaths choose remedies that best match the individual they are treating and provide these remedies to their clients.
