“What motivates you?”
For Mr Brendan Cummings, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Wellington Eye Clinic in Dublin, the answer is simple.

Seeing young people return to sport with clear, confident vision.
Short-sightedness, astigmatism and contact lens dryness can quietly affect performance, especially under lights or at distance. After laser eye surgery or ICL, many athletes experience sharper distance vision and improved depth awareness. For active patients, clearer vision can mean competing properly again.

If glasses or contact lenses are holding you back in sport, it may be worth exploring your options.

How does research actually improve your outcome as a patient?
At Wellington Eye Clinic, research is not separate from clinical care. It informs it.

Mr Arthur Cummings has contributed to advancing refractive surgery internationally for over 25 years. In our newest blog, he explains how evidence based decision making shapes every consultation, every surgical plan and every long term follow up.

Choosing a surgeon who helps develop modern techniques means your treatment is guided by real world data, not trends.

Why do I need reading glasses before my friends? 👓

If you have been asking this recently, Ms Charlotte Buscombe has the answers. Some people are slightly farsighted and do not realise it because their natural lens has been compensating for years. When we are younger, that lens is flexible. Over time it naturally stiffens. If it has already been working hard to help you see in the distance, you may notice near vision blur sooner.

At Wellington Eye Clinic, we assess your prescription, eye anatomy and lifestyle before recommending any solution.

Your vision needs change as life changes.

In your 20s and 30s, it might be sport, travel or ditching contact lenses.
In your 40s, it’s near vision, screens and reading glasses.
In your 50s and beyond, it’s long-term clarity and eye health.

At Wellington Eye Clinic, we design vision correction around where you are in life, not just your prescription.

👀 Which stage are you in right now?

Do we all get cataracts? 👀 This question comes up ALL the time.

Having changes in your lens as you age is normal. That doesn’t automatically mean you have a cataract. It’s only called a cataract when those changes start affecting your vision. Blur. Glare. Halos. Or glasses just not doing the job anymore. Think of it as a spectrum, not an on/off switch.

👀 Have you noticed glare at night or your vision feeling “off” lately?

Our Story

The Wellington Eye Clinic was founded in 1980. Since then it has specialized in helping patients eliminate their need for glasses and contact lenses #EveryWakingMinute. The clinic has been at the forefront of vision correction for almost 2 decades and was the very first eye clinic in Europe to purchase an excimer laser (the laser that performs laser vision correction). The clinic prides itself is practicing medicine and vision correction with the highest standards of professional care, integrity and responsibility. We take vision correction seriously. Our medical director, Mr Arthur Cummings FRCSEd, has been voted as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Ophthalmologists worldwide in 2018 and in the Top 10 Leaders in Ophthalmology worldwide in 2019 by readers of The Ophthalmologist. Our approach to something as important as vision correction, is a team approach, and we have some of the very best nurses, optometrists, technicians, administrative personnel and researchers in the country on the team. Eyesight is arguably our most precious and prized sense and we feel honoured when you choose us to help you see better. The first sentence on our mission statement is “Patient satisfaction is our number 1 priority” and we strive to not only provide you with the very best visual outcome, but also the very best experience in dealing with us. We look forward to welcoming you to the Wellington Eye Clinic.
