Today we held our Autumn GP Study Day and our second session was all about Hot Topics for General Practice! 🎉

Following on from a great first session, our second session contained six more brilliant presentations. Our second session started with a presentation on Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery by Mr William Robb, Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon.

Prof Eddie Moloney, Consultant in Respiratory and GIM gave an update on obstructive sleep apnoea. Next, Dr Abhilash Sahadevan, Consultant in Respiratory and GIM, spoke on Exercise Induced Asthma. Dr Deirdre B Fitzgerald, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, followed with advice on Integrated COPD Care. Prof Seamus Linnane, Consultant in Respiratory and GIM and Deputy Medical Director of Beacon Hospital, covered Common and Uncommon Respiratory Presentations.

Prof Robert Hannon, Consultant General, Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon, closed out the session discussing Surgical Aspects of IBD.

Finally, there was ice-cream all round to mark the end of summer! It was wonderful to have so many GPs join us in UCD O’Reilly Hall.

Our “Advanced Breast Care & Hot Topics” Autumn 2025 GP Study Day is underway! 🎥
Our GP Study Day kicked off with a presentation by Mr Terry Boyle and Martina Farley on current Breast Cancer Trends.

Dr Reem Salman, Consultant Breast Surgeon, followed with a useful guide on Risk assessment Tools for the GP. Assoc Prof Sylvia O’Keeffe, Consultant Radiologist spoke on Breast Surveillance for high risk, dense breast and HRT. Dr Carmen Torre, Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon gave an update on Breast Reconstruction Case Studies.

Our first session ended with an MDT Panel on High Risk Patients with Mr Dhafir Alawazi, Consultant Breast Surgeon, Dr Lisa Prior, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Prof Fran Duane, Consultant Radiation Oncologist.

It’s been a great morning of informative presentations on advanced breast care from our speakers. We are delighted to have so many join us both in-person and online !

Another First for Beacon Hospital! 🎉
Zeiss Kinevo 900 S installed at Beacon Hospital – First in Ireland and the UK

This week Beacon Hospital celebrated the arrival of the Zeiss Kinevo 900s which is a next generation high-tech surgical microscope used for neurosurgery and spine surgery. It is the first of its kind in Ireland and UK and reflects Beacon Hospital’s ongoing commitment to investing in state-of-the-art medical technology to deliver the highest standards of patient care.

Early this year Beacon Hospital announced an investment of €30 million to develop the most advanced brain centre in Ireland, Beacon Brain Institute. The Zeiss Kinevo 900 S is a welcome addition to this service as it offers enhanced surgical visualisation for neurosurgeons. This new Institute will mean Beacon Hospital is Ireland’s only private hospital to offer the complete Neurosciences services including Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neurophysiology, Diagnostic Neuroradiology, Interventional neuroradiology and Neuro-oncology including stereotactic radiosurgery.

Beacon Hospital Emergency Department is a walk-in service treating an array of conditions from minor injuries, sprains, breaks and cardiac complaints, to acute medical and surgical emergencies. Our team of experts are on hand to offer immediate access to medical assessment and treatment.

Our Emergency Department is a consultant-led Department backed by our full-service hospital with over 300 Consultants and 2,000 healthcare professionals. 💙

Our ED is open Monday – Friday between 10am-7pm, and on Saturday and Bank Holidays between 10am-6pm. The ED is closed on Sundays.

June is and this weekend is the Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride Parade. 🎉 Today in Beacon Hospital we are celebrating Pride around the Hospital!

Today, our LGBTQ+ Committee hosted a stand filled with sweet treats and informative resources as part of our Pride celebrations. Supporting and standing with the LGBTQ+ community is so important because everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and seen, no matter their gender, pronouns or sexual orientation.

This weekend a team of Beacon Hospital Staff members are taking part in Mondello24, a 24hour cycle challenge in aid of Purple House Cancer Support. 🎉 💙

This is a fantastic team of eight staff members from different departments across the hospital. Mondello24 is a cycling challenge around the international Mondello race circuit in Co Kildare. Mondello24 starts at 12noon this Saturday 21st June and runs straight through the night until 12noon on Sunday!

Beacon Hospital’s team are fundraising for Purple House Cancer Support. Purple House Cancer Support is at the forefront in providing a range of professional support services to people of all ages affected by Cancer in Ireland. The aim of Purple House is to help rebuild the lives of families affected by Cancer. 💜

Purple House provides community-based cancer support from Purple House in Bray Co. Wicklow, as well as Cancer Support Groups in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. Purple House is at the heart of the community and is funded almost entirely by voluntary donations.

Beacon Hospital are delighted to announce a €30 million investment into the development of a state-of-the-art neuroscience centre, Beacon Brain Institute. This new Institute will mean Beacon Hospital is Ireland’s only private hospital to offer the complete Neurosciences services and be the first adult hospital in Ireland to have a dedicated Neurosurgical Operating Theatre with intraoperative MRI.

This investment in Neuroscience services is in addition to the €75 million capital investment programme already underway with the significant expansion of the hospital on the former site of the Beacon Hotel. This expansion will lead to the addition of 70 new beds, a new Emergency Department and enhanced cancer care facilities.

Beacon Brain Institute will be headed up by our own Prof Mohsen Javadpour, Consultant Neurosurgeon, and an incredibly distinguished and talented team of neurosurgical and neuroscience consultants and nurses.

Beacon Hospital is already an established centre of excellence for brain surgery – over 500 brain surgeries have already been carried out at the hospital, including surgery for complex Brain Tumours and Aneurysms. The new Beacon Brain Institute will have the capacity to treat approximately 10,000 patients annually.
