End all political violence. The disgraceful and unjustifiable killing of Charlie Kirk, a married father of two, has cast a harsh light on this growing problem. Equally troubling is the far less publicised June stalking and murder of Melissa Hortman, a mother of three and US politician, who was also assassinated alongside her husband solely because of their political beliefs. As Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us, ‘Violence never brings permanent peace. It solves no social problem: it merely creates new and more complicated ones.’ Political violence resolves nothing — it only breeds division and chaos. We must stand together and say clearly: end all political violence.
Vance Boelter, 57, of Green Isle, Minnesota, has been charged by federal complaint with stalking and murdering Minnesota House of Representatives Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, in addition to stalking and shooting Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.
