Another month, more stats.

And I really can’t believe the number of pregnant new patients that came in August, 19 in total, that’s got to be one of the busiest pregnancy months I’ve ever had 👏☺️

Now, just 4 months until the end of the year, so let’s see if I can see more than last year… need 35 more pregnant mama’s to trust me with their care 🙏🏻🙏🏻🤰🏻🤰🏻

While the pre-menstrual is often associated with a lot of negativity due to the symptoms often experienced, there are also some positives if you lean into the changes and understand them.

The autumn of our cycle - the premenstrual - can be related to the autumn of the seasons. And here’s why:
- there’s a change in pace and energy as a start of preparation for winter. We feel this too after the energy of ovulation. It’s the body’s way of protecting you in case you became pregnant.
- harvesting of the fruits and vegetables ripened over summer. For us it can be a time to acknowledge what we have accomplished over the previous parts of our cycle.
- animals busy gathering and preparing for hibernation. For us this can be a spurt of energy trying to finish off projects, clean the house, prepare tasty comforting food in preparation for our retreat and hibernation of our bleed.
- the falling leaves and dying back of vegetation can be a sign for us to let go of what is no longer serving us
- a shortening of the day and a call for less activity. For us that be a yearning for warm baths, more quiet time, cosy hot drinks and early nights. Think hygge

Some really like this part of their cycle and fully embrace it. Others who struggle with strong symptoms may be jarred and annoyed by it. If your symptoms are particularly bad during this phase I would strongly suggest you reach out to a women’s health expert (may not necessarily be your GP I’m afraid), it may be your chiropractor, a nutritional therapist, an acupuncturist or other therapist for guidance and advice on getting answers and help. It is not normal to have bad pre-menstrual symptoms.

This is me right now and I’m trying to fully embrace some rest in the coming week. You will hopefully find me under a blanket wearing fluffy socks drinking a hot cacao 🥰🍂

I find race day tough.

I don’t know why I get so nervous. Especially as my last race I knew I could run the 10km.

But I did get nervous. I fretted over where to put my bib number as I’d never raced in a sports bra. I was concerned whether my double menstrual protection would be enough. I worried if I’d hydrated enough and eaten enough during the day to get me through the race.

While I try to pace myself, it’s difficult to not go faster on race day and that’s one of the reasons you race is to go faster and challenge yourself. But I worry if I’ll overdo it and not be able to finish. Or if I’ll push myself too hard and injure myself.

But so far I have always crossed the finish line. Granted on one occasion I needed the assistance of the paramedics for a little while as my asthma was badly aggravated and very low blood pressure and on another occasion I did give myself an Achilles tendinitis.

So I find it funny that a few days later I’ll go out and run 2, 4 or 6km more than on race day without over thinking it, almost to the point of not hydrating or eating enough that my training run is compromised.

Running is such a mental challenge as well as a physical one. Running is tough. Some runs are ok, some good, some great, many awful. But with consistency you get better.

Maybe with more races my nerves will improve!

It was time to update the frame in my reception with the stats of 1000 mums looked after since 2015. This frame has been in my reception since I put it together for an event I was speaking and exhibiting at.

I’m so grateful for all the mums who trust me and to those who continue to recommend me and for the testimonials I receive.

A first-time mum to twins was recommended to me and she wanted to ask she when was a good time to come in.

So here’s what I suggested and because of those points she decided to book sooner rather than later.

I am finding myself recommending commencing treatment a little earlier for some patients as more are driving 1 hour or more each direction for an appointment with me so factors like this need to be taken into consideration.

If you have any questions as to when to start treatment please let me know.

On a day of so much anger and sadness at one of Ireland’s home birth options closing down, I am also filled so much gratitude and honour for the mums who have trusted me with their care whether the plan is to birth at home or hospital and anywhere in between.

I don’t know how my prenatal practise might evolve with less women having access to midwifery-led home birth as it currently stands but I will continue to do my best and provide the highest level of care I can to those who come to me.

A post on what I know and understand about pre-natal supplements and what I generally advise my patients with. I really tried to keep this simple and keep to the main things I now look for.

As always if you want the research deets then there is no other really than whether her books and/or blog posts and/or podcast appearances.

Please, please, please do your research!! Marketing claims while not illegal are so far from the recent research and are doing you no favours. Baby ‘may’ be ok but you are more than likely to be depleted. And we need mums functioning at their optimal and feeling great, not struggling from day to day.

And as I’ve posted about before, if you are taking certain medications like Omeprazole or Metformin, have HG or have a history of low B12 from Coeliac disease or family history then you may need to take even more of the pre-natal or supplement with individual nutrients like vitamin D or B12.

I can’t wait to be able to stock a prenatal trio from InHealth (where my other supplements now come from) and be able to sell a high dose multivitamin with a separate choline and separate omega 3 for about €50!

Let me know if you’ve found this helpful, what did you learn and if you’ll be looking more closely from now on to what the is in the box.

I have my own QR code!!

Created this more for a poster for my front desk but thought I’d pop this here too.

Will you help me raise funds for who help women in the UK and Ireland with the painful and often debilitating condition Pelvic Girdle Pain?

I’m running the Super Half’s - 6 half marathons across Europe over the next 2 years.

Scan the QR code or click on the link in my bio.

Thank you 🙏🏻

Just realised that in the busyness of getting ready to go on holiday I created this content and didn’t share! And it’s almost time for the July stats!! 🤦‍♀️🤣☺️

Better late than never.

As always I’m honoured to look after those mama’s-to-be who entrust me with their chiropractic care.

I’d say by the end of August I’ll be celebrating 1000 pregnant patients in 12 years. 👏🥰

29/07/2025

I’m quite often asked about combining chiropractic care with other bodywork modalities and quite often I say absolutely yes! Chiropractic works on joint alignment, joint function and the nervous system while the others on the list work on soft tissue and/or fascia.

And as the body is a complicated interconnected emotional machine it is almost impossible to separate systems and therefore by working on multiple systems at the same time you get better results and quicker than if you were to have one treatment at a time.

Two treatments I would normally say not to combine would be osteopathy and chiropractic as both are manual release techniques and ideally you don’t want to be getting over adjusted. And another consideration is if you are attending a physiotherapist who also does manual adjusting.

Regardless of who you are attending please let them know of all other treatment modalities you are receiving so you can be advised accordingly.

I have the privilege to have built solid working relationships with lots of other bodywork therapists and some where you can receive a discount for mentioning me. So if you are looking to combine care let me know and I’ll give some advice.
