Beaumont IT 'Signs onto' Success

Congratulations to the IT Department, and particularly the Single sign-on implementation team, who were recently presented with a Clinical Impact Award for the success of the SSO rollout. This award highlights Beaumont's commitment to innovation, security, and improving the provider and patient experience and we were delighted to be recognised.

From August 1st to August 31st, 2025, Imprivata SSO allowed Beaumont Hospital users to authenticate securely without the need to enter a password 467,321 times. This secure access was delivered for 3194 individual users across 89 applications and 8 different identity providers. This conservatively saved 649 hours of time previously spent entering passwords by staff per month.

The rollout was the result of months of planning, testing and training and with SSO now on almost every PC in the house now and with 4300 staff registered to use it, our clinical teams can log in once and move seamlessly between applications saving valuable time and reducing daily frustrations with passwords. This is especially important now with the advent of iPM /ORBIS / MedLIS / PACS working together which prior to SSO, would have necessitated four separate passwords. The photo shows the SSO Team, and we send them our congratulations on this initiative.

Over the weekend of September 13–14, we successfully launched our brand-new hospital systems – replacing the systems we have had for the past 35 years. 🎉

What does this mean for our patients?
✅ Smoother processes behind the scenes
✅ Quicker, more efficient service
✅ A modern, future-proof system supporting your care for years to come

A huge thank you to our amazing staff who worked so hard to make this happen seamlessly for our patients. We would also like to thank our community colleagues for their support over the go-live period – the National Ambulance service and Dublin airport fire service, our local GP community, our colleagues in the other Dublin Area Teaching Hospitals (DATHs), Connolly Hospital, the Integrated Health Areas (IHA) and the HSE.

This is a big step forward in making sure we can continue delivering the best possible care to you, now and into the future.

A section on a portion of a wall surrounding the St Joseph’s Hospital Campus has had a facelift with a beautiful mural painted by artist Susan Crossan and her daughter Ellie Greene. They chose two animals that were synonymous with the area – the drake and the fox!

Susan visited the hospital for its unveiling recently alongside and is pictured with Allison from Raheny Tidy Towns and Luke Mulvaney. Business & Operations Lead, St Joseph’s campus.

Members of the Crossan family are past patients of Beaumont and St Joseph’s and Susan & Ellie wanted to give something back and what a better way than in the form of art.

Beaumont Hospital Celebrates PRIDE Week

Last week, Beaumont Hospital proudly celebrated Pride Week with a colourful and engaging awareness stand in the main foyer, promoting inclusion, visibility, and allyship across the hospital community.

The stand, coordinated by colleagues from HR, Nursing, Portering, Front desk, Physiotherapy & Social Work, welcomed staff, patients, and visitors to learn more about the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals in healthcare, as well as the importance of creating safe and affirming spaces for all. Those who stopped at the stand had an opportunity to:

Collect Pride-themed badges, stickers, and educational materials.

Engage in meaningful conversations about inclusive language and respectful care.

Learn about support services available within the hospital and in the wider community.

Participate in the quiz to win a hamper of personal care products kindly donated by McCabes Pharmacy.

The initiative was part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where all staff and patients feel safe, respected, and valued.

Thank you to everyone who visited the stand, asked questions, and showed your support. 🌈

27/05/2025

Today (Tues 27 May) Beaumont Hospital launched a new Volunteer "Meet & Greet" service aimed at enhancing the experience of patients and visitors by providing a welcoming presence and practical assistance within the hospital. This initiative is part of the hospital's broader strategy to improve patient care and accessibility, particularly for those who may find navigating the hospital environment challenging.

The "Meet & Greet" volunteers serve as the first point of contact for individuals entering the hospital. Their primary role is to offer a warm and friendly welcome and assist patients and visitors in finding their way to various departments. This support is especially beneficial for those who may be unfamiliar with the hospital layout or who require additional assistance, such as assistance to contact a relative or bringing the patient to the taxi rank for example, helping people who require wheelchairs to reach their destination and ensuing patients are in the right place for services.

The volunteer service will operate from Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00 and will be clearly identifiable by their pink vests and name badges.

At the launch today, Anne Coyle, CEO thanked those who have volunteered saying that they would provide a friendly face to assist visitors and provide a welcoming environment in what can be for some, a worrying time. Their support would make a significant impact on those visiting the hospital. She hoped that it would improve the hospital experience for patients and visitors and also offer the volunteers a fulfilling opportunity to contribute positively to their community.

Anne also thanked the QPS and Patient Representative's office for their work in bringing this initiative to fruition.
