Our story begins in Rathmines in Dublin 6, in 1987. Rathmines is a locality which always embraced diversity, innovation and creativity. It was indeed an appropriate birth place for Mairead O’Leary Opticians and the beginning of our eye-wear journey. In those days it was illegal to have more than 8 spectacles in your window. However we invented a way for prospective patients to see hundreds of the latest designer spectacles glistening under spotlights before entering the shop. Our second practice was opened in 1988 in the rapidly growing suburb of Blanchardstown and our move to the new Blanchardstown Centre, Dublin 15 in 1996 enabled us to display over a thousand frames. Brands such as Vogue, Calvin Klein, Esprit, Armani, MiuMiu and many other designer names were added to the collections. Today our status as a leading independent stockist for many of our designer brands, mean you can get access to the latest styles from Italian factories a long time before the optical chains. October 2014 saw the merger of the long established Dublin Eye Centre with our Rathmines practice. The Dublin Eye Centre is a leading “Total Eye Care Centre” supported with a full range of optical services including consultant surgical and clinical ophthalmologists. We are dedicated to continuous innovation and attention to detail which has secured us as the favourite optician and hearing care specialist for families and celebrities alike. We helped invent the industry leading practice management software and our computerised patient records go back to 1987. Over that time, we have built a detailed patient history including retinal photography, which assists us in tracking the smallest changes in your eye health. We have supervised many optical students in practice over the years. We also have two academic staff on our team, who help us keep ahead when it comes to optical care from both practice standards and the latest in diagnostic and lens technologies. When it comes to eye-care excellence, experience counts. Our staff has on average 20 years of experience in the optical industry and 16 years experience at Mairead O’Leary Opticians. We were the first to introduce enhanced eye exams in Ireland in 2008. Our staff specialisations include: Contact Lens fittings, cataract, macular degenaration and glaucoma detection. Our paediatric care includes detection of cross-eyes, squints and uniquely the provision of behavioural optometry. Our corporate services include consultations on VDU policies, and Health & Safety programs for eye-sight. We help corporations select appropriate safety glasses for their employees following a full appraisal of the work environment.
