Mindful meditation has been a boost for my own energy levels. A mind that is constantly thinking and ruminating (and we often have the same thoughts over and over) is a real "energysuck". Simply sitting and resting in awareness of body and mind is enough to allow breath and mind to slow down. I notice I have more energy and clarity throughout the day after a practice. This article is from my blog on imindtraining.com

Create a life that is energising, loving and patient. When we spend time in rumination, worrying about the future and worrying about the past it is so incredibly draining. It drains our energy, our time, our resources, our relationships. It can be unnecessary and wasteful. Do you spend a lot of time...

Tomorrow mornings practice is full of multi directional delight!
This practice is designed to replicate a circular pattern and to slip slowly through the asanas like honey moving through your hands. Sink and slink deeply into a creative flow and be fully immersed into the experience. It's easy to see why this style resonates so naturally with people. And it's one if my favourites.
Mandala Flow.

WHEN I AM AMONG TREES by Mary Oliver

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks, and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.

I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,”
they say, “and you, too, have come
into the world to do this, to go easy,
to be filled with light, and to shine.”

Midsummer Mindfulness Feast: Mindfully Cooking, Eating, Walking:
www.passaddhi.com

An annual retreat in silence and with daily meditation is not only part of my continuing professional development as a mindfulness teacher but a transforming experience that really helps me to slow down, gain insight and come back to my everyday life with a fresh perspective. Having put my phone away for the 5 days made me really realise how dependent I am on it at home. It has become such habit to pick it up every time I feel a hint of boredom.

Today I am toying with leaving it aside and arranging a time later this evening to consult with it on the various arrangements I need to make. I feel freer and yes, occasionally bored but am allowing that feeling to come and go. It’s part of life.

Another important aspect was the sitting in silence. I also realised I am squeezing a daily meditation into my day. Today however I made it my priority and sat for 25 minutes before breakfast. The silence is gorgeous, despite my busy mind and the various physical discomforts that distract me I kept coming back to silence and enjoying glimpses of quiet. It is a nourishment for the mind and the heart and even the physical body as the tension in my shoulders eases.

Breakfast was another affair. As part of the retreat was conscious cooking I took time with breakfast and feel a deep appreciation for where the food has come from and the many hands that harvested and delivered it. Being honest food can be a quick affair when the kids are starving and making it on time to activities can be an issue. At least 1 meal a day - breakfast or dinner - can be taken in a slow and appreciative way concentration on the flavour, texture, cooking smells and understanding the way in which we nourish ourselves.

Finally "Loving Kindness Meditation"can be difficult to navigate. It is a rare day that I congratulate myself on what I have done. Much easier to make a list of the things I haven’t done and what is not quite right. It’s part of our negativity bias. We are hugely critical of ourselves but with the seed of kindness planted, the practice grows.

It is so much needed amongst our children. So many teens particularly young girls just don’t like themselves, Image becomes such an issue and they are quite self critical. Catching kids early and teaching "Loving Kindness Meditation" is a fascinating experience. The love and warmth that can arise in this practice comes much more quickly in children. It is a good time to start with them as they can reinforce and strengthen these feelings through the practice which can sustain them through those difficult teen years.

It is really easy!

Spend a few minutes quietly sitting each morning

Eat one meal every day slowly and in appreciation

Place your hand on your heart every day and say

“May I be well, may I be happy, may I be peaceful”

Thats all!

Metta,

Donna

The breath is our guide. It can let us know when we are feeling agitated or under pressure. Take time to get in contact with the breath. Sitting quietly gives us an opportunity to do this. Just observing each breath. Allowing it to find its own path, its own length. Try not to control the process. The breath knows its own way and the body and mind comes back to a place of calm and balance.

Oftentimes we use a harsh inner voice to motivate ourselves. Try using a voice that is both gentle and encouraging. You can still get done what needs doing but with less harshness. Practicing gratitude and appreciating all your efforts and those of others brings that sense of accomplishment and joy.
Simple and beautiful!
