Ms Éilís Fitzgerald MB BAO MCh MSc BTEC (Laser) FFSEM FRCSI (Plast)

Consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon

Practicing at the Beacon Hospital, Dublin 18. My approach centres on providing individualised, ethical, effective treatments to my patients. As I work full-time in the private sector, without commitments elsewhere, I am in a position to offer a high level of personalised care. My goal is always to provide the level of service that I would be impressed to receive as a patient. I realise that when someone chooses me as their surgeon, they are placing their trust in me, and I take the responsibility that this confers very seriously. Clear communication, a collaborative approach to decision making, and commitment to long-term follow-up are just some of my guiding principles. I see patients for cosmetic, reconstructive, and laser surgery. I also offer minimally-invasive and non-surgical treatments. You can find more information on the treatments I offer by browsing the sections above. I have received formal, recognised training in all aspects of my speciality, including time spent on internationally-recognised fellowship programmes in the UK and the Netherlands gaining experience and qualifications in aesthetic surgery and lasers. I am the only plastic surgeon practicing in Ireland who has undergone such extensive training in medical lasers. I have undertaken this level of training to allow me to offer the best care to my patients, and will never offer to perform a procedure that I do not believe in. This page and my website are not intended to replace a face-to-face consultation, but rather to provide you with some knowledge to use as a starting-point in your decision-making process. For any given procedure, the information provided may not be relevant to you, and personalised advice should always supersede general information obtained online. Please do get in touch with any queries, and we will do our best to help you.

Sometimes, the simplest of procedures, can have a very significant impact on a patient. This young woman had been bothered by a white lump on her lower lip for a number of years. Although benign, lesions like this can be really bothersome to patients & the decision to replace the lesion with a scar, is the right one for that person. The surgical markings are made to ensure that there is no mismatch of the vermilion border of the lip, and the scar is placed radially (from the inside to out), to avoid any thinning of the lip. The procedure is straightforward, taking about 15 minutes under local anaesthetic, with stitches removed a week later. After a month, the scar is inconspicuous at conversational distance, and the most noticeable thing about this patient’s mouth is her beautiful lip shape - which is all natural & for which I can take no credit!

Also known as , this procedure is designed to lift and reshape the breasts.
Whether as a result of ageing, weight loss, or pregnancy & breastfeeding, droopy breasts have a significant impact on the balance and proportions of the torso. Depending on the current and desired breast volume, this is a procedure that may involve the use of implants to add volume, or removal of breast tissue, to reduce volume (as was done in this case). Sometimes, where a woman is quite happy with the size, but not the shape, of her breasts, only a small amount of breast tissue and skin, requires to be removed, and the focus is entirely on reshaping the tissues.
At eight weeks post-op, my gorgeous patient is delighted with her result: the scars will settle and the slight tightening in the lower pole, visible in these pictures, will round out to give an even more natural contour.

Early result from surgery. This young woman came to see me, concerned regarding her breasts, which were too big and heavy for her frame. She was also concerned regarding the size of her areolas (the darker coloured skin around the ni**le). She had previously undergone an , with disappointing results & it took her a few years to build up the courage to have another operation.
Following a detailed consultation process during which we talked about goals for surgery & the anticipated outcome, the patient decided to proceed to breast reduction surgery.
Here she is at her first post-op visit, at 12 days after surgery, with the nurse. The surgical tapes have been removed, and the early scar formation is favourable. As expected, there is some bruising & swelling, but already the improved shape and size of the breast is apparent. Most importantly, the patient is delighted with how things look and feel. The upper back and neck pain she was experiencing pre-op have improved, and her words, her new breasts are “so cute” 🥰

surgery using breast implants.
This gorgeous patient came to see me in relation to her breasts, which were small and deflated after a few children. As you can see, she works incredibly hard at the gym, and has an enviable physique. Her breasts were the one bit that she could change despite how hard she works, and she thought long and hard about going ahead with surgery. She was very keen on a natural result, proportionate with her frame, and which did not look in any way fake.
Following a detailed consultation to establish the patient’s goals, 3D imaging using our system from was used to show her a simulated image of how she might look. Combined with external implant sizers (“chicken fillets!”), and advice from her mum 😁 she was able to communicate to me, exactly what she was looking for. We selected a 265cc moderate implant, placed over the muscle, and both she and I are delighted with the result.

removal and reconstruction. This lovely woman was referred to me by her GP with a concerning lesion on her forehead. It had classic features of (basal cell carcinoma), and required removal and reconstruction. Following a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis, the tumour was removed with a safety margin of normal skin, followed immediately by reconstruction with a “H flap”. Surgery was performed

The second image shows the sketch I made during the consultation, to explain the operation to the patient. While many patients are initially alarmed when I mention making these incisions on their faces, this case illustrates beautifully, how using local tissue and working with the natural lines that exist on the skin, can give an excellent cosmetic result. The patient has followed carefully our scar management advice, and her consistency in doing so, has contributed to her result. I am sharing her images with her generous permission. facts is the commonest form of skin cancer in Ireland 🇮🇪. It does not spread to other parts of the body, but can be locally destructive. Surgery is curative.

If you are worried about a skin lesion, please see your GP. They will guide you as to the best next step, which may include referral to a plastic surgeon or dermatologist. and have excellent resources online.

The commonest question patients get asked after surgery, is not "Have you had a breast reduction?", but rather "Have you lost weight?". this gorgeous woman's case illustrates just why. She weighs the same in the before and after pictures: the difference is the change to her proportions that having a breast reduction has made. More of the torso is revealed, meaning the narrowest part of the waist in visible. This makes such a difference to balance and proportion, both in and out of clothes.
The commonest question I get asked, is whether the patient needs a reduction or a lift... as you can see, a reduction always involves a lift. Its all about the shape. balance, and proprtion.
This case also illustrates that even where a complication occurs, the outcome may not be adversely impacted. My patient developed a haematoma (bleeding inside the breast), at 24 hours post-operatively. This required a second procedure under anaesthetic, to stop the bleeding and close everything just as carefully as before... looking at these pictures, it's not possible to tell which side had the problem.
This is a operation, with huge positive impacts on women's physical and psychological wellbeing. It is one of my favourites to do, and this case illustrates why. The pictures are shared with the generous permission of my patient: please do not share without permission and tagging.

“BAAPS and TSPRAS have come together to draw up some advice and guidance for patients seeking surgery in Türkiye (Turkey), which has a large cosmetic tourism industry. The aim of this guidance is to help to protect patients from harm and ensure that they are aware of standards of care (both before and after surgery) that they should expect as a minimum.”

The two organisations strongly urge anyone from the UK considering travelling to Türkiye for cosmetic surgery to consider the following points:

Any Turkish surgeon seen should be a member of TSPRAS (the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) - of which there is a member listing available online (https://www.plastikcerrahi.org.tr/doktor-arama/). If there is uncertainty regarding your surgeon’s qualifications or Society membership, you should email tprecd@gmail.com

Your surgeon in Türkiye should have Turkish board certification - you should be able to see their certificate on request.

EBOPRAS membership (the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery) is desirable in your surgeon.

Your surgeon should have been in practice in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery for at least 5-years (as training is different in Türkiye)

Your surgeon should offer you an aftercare plan.

You should know the name of your surgeon and how to contact them if there is a problem.

It is advisable to ask how long your surgeon has been working with their clinic or company - at least 3-years is recommended.

Informed consent - it is compulsory in Türkiye to have a comprehensive consent form completed ahead of travel - if this does not happen it should raise concerns.

Please double-check your surgeon about his/her specialty. In Türkiye – there are practitioners who claim to be plastic surgeons who are not, and other surgeons working outside their areas of training and specialty.

We recommend that your surgeon performs your surgery in a fully recognised hospital, which might be, in Türkiye, identified by having at least 30-beds.

This fabulous human being all but danced into clinic, 8 months following her surgery, wearing a pair of high waisted trousers with a jumper tucked into the waistband… something she would never have done before her surgery with me.

She’s delighted with her result and I am sharing her photos with her kind permission.

During the course of surgery, 1.8kg of skin and fat was removed, and the tissue around her six-pack muscles tightened, to deal with a - we also got rid of an old tattoo on the lower left abdomen. The internal tightening stitches have redefined her waist, particularly noticeable from the back.

My patient describes a new sense of confidence, and her only regret is that she did not do this years ago. She’s loving the freedom she has with clothing choices and like so many people, finds she spends much less time being preoccupied with her tummy, than before surgery.

I’m giving away a skin health consultation and €300 worth of ZO products, to try to help a friend raise funds for his niece who needs life-saving thymus transplant surgery.

They’re based in the USA, and while insurance should cover the millions of dollars the surgery will cost, the family need financial help to pay for a medical flight & living expenses for four weeks around the time of her surgery.

Baby Autumn was born in November 2021 without a thymus gland. This means she has no immune system. She has lived almost her whole life in isolation in hospital. Her dad has been able to see her just one in that time, and her sisters, never.

I’m asking people to donate to help Autumn.

For every €10 you donate, using the gofundme link in my stories, you get one entry.

When you’ve made your donation, just DM me a screenshot of the confirmation page to enter. There is no need to follow or like my page to enter, but if you could share this post, I’d be very grateful.

Winner will be chosen at random next week.

So enter early and often!

Thank you so much xx

Requests for breast implant removal have become increasingly common, year on year, to the point where I now remove more implants that I put in.

Numerous options exist for a woman in this situation, and include a decision as to whether to have new implants, and whether a lift or breast reshaping is needed or wanted.

This patient had previously had old, smaller implants replaced with larger ones, about 10 years ago. However she always found them too big. When the time came for these implants to go, the patient was pleased to have an option that allowed removal of her implants and reshaping of her own breast tissue.

She underwent implant removal with capsulectomy, uplift and

The procedure involves removal of the old implants and surrounding scar tissue, reshaping of the patients breast tissue, and uplift of the breasts, positioning the ni**les in a higher, more balanced position on the breast mound. Surgery is done under general anaesthetic. All stitches are dissolving, and there are no surgical drains used. A post-surgical bra is required for 6 weeks after surgery.

At six months post-op, the patient was pleased with her smaller, softer, lighter, and more natural shaped breasts. The small disparity in size does not trouble her, but could be addressed with fat grafting down the line, if it becomes a concern.

Breast reduction is one of our most commonly requested and performed procedures.

Smaller, lighter, uplifted breasts, more in proportion with the patient’s shoulders, waist, hips & height, is the goal of surgery. The trade-off, is permanent surgical scarring.

The procedure involves reduction in the volume of the breasts, lifting of the ni**le, & reshaping of the breast tissue. Surgery is done under general anaesthetic. All stitches are dissolving, and there are no surgical drains used. A post-surgical bra is required for 6 weeks after surgery.

It is an operation with high satisfaction rates: clinical studies showing improvements in quality of life comparable to those enjoyed by patients having hip or knee replacement surgery. Implant removal with total capsulectomy, mastopexy (breast uplift), and auto-augmentation (using the patient’s own tissue to fill the space left by the implants). Photos pre and 13 months post-op. This patient’s implants were inserted many years ago by another surgeon. Over time, the capsules around them became hard and calcified, resulting in distortion on the breast shape and discomfort and hardening of the breasts themselves. I removed the capsules and implants and reshaped the breast tissue, to give smaller, softer and more favourably-shaped breasts. The scars have faded beautifully and my patient is very satisfied with her result. She has kindly agreed that I may share her photos, so please do not share without permission & tagging. If you wish to schedule an appointment to see me for a consultation, please contact office@fizgeraldplasticsurgery.ie (we cannot arrange consults via DMs here).

images of my gorgeous patient, who has undergone with repair of diastasis (muscle separation). My patient and I chose this technique, as she wished to address the sides and back of her waist - sometimes know as the area, as well as the front of her tummy. Her images are taken pre-op and a year down the line and are shared with her generous permission. In addition to accentuating her tiny waist and all her hard work at the gym, this hard working mum has noticed improvements in urinary incontinence symptoms - which she attributes to surgery and working with the fabulous .pelvic.physio Please do not repost images without credit/ tagging.
