The quiz resumed on Wednesday night last (19th November) in conditions that were frosty and unwelcoming. Inside the club the conditions were just frosty - at least for former champions Celtic Boys who had an appeal to popular acclaim roundly dismissed when they argued that all plants are trees. The quiz hierarchy could not stretch the conventions of quizzing to give them the point they would need to fend off the inevitable march to victory of other former champions Wizard. The Quizmaster will not be on Christy McDonnell’s Christmas card list – nor will Michael or Sara.

With Wizard beating Celtic Boys by a point, it was left to much improved Quiztopher Columbus to take third spot on the night. Reigning champions Corner Boys finished fourth, and honourable mentions go to Celtic Warriors and the returning Stars of the Sea. Another honourable mention must go to Harmerang because they asked for one!

Erstwhile champions Wizard take a commanding lead in the overall leaderboard (available on the club Noticeboard), but with discards still widely available there are opportunities for all teams to improve their positions.

Finally, although Martin McCarthy must remain nameless, it should be noted that Motor Buoys - note the name of the team! – were not able to answer the question that called for the correct spelling of ‘buoy’.

The next quiz will take place on December 3rd, at 8pm sharp!

What a Week for Our Sailors!

Brian Uniacke and Team Tongyeong have successfully arrived in Cape Town after completing Stage 3 of the 2025/2026 Clipper Round the World Race! The team currently sits in 6th place, an impressive achievement after thousands of nautical miles at sea.
Up next, on November 16th, they’ll set off on Stage 4: Marlow’s Blue Ocean Sleigh Ride — an exhilarating 4,800nm ocean crossing from Cape Town, South Africa to Fremantle, Australia.

Meanwhile, Damien Payne has returned home after his incredible adventure with Team “Power of Seattle Sport.” We’ll continue to cheer on Damien’s teammates, who are currently in 4th place after earning 3 vital points at the scoring gate in the last stage.
We’ll hear more from Damien over the coming weeks, as he shares some of his amazing stories with us, from the “choppy” waters in the Bay of Biscay, to lightning storms mid Atlantic.

Our junior sailors have also been making waves abroad!
In Sicily, Ethan Spain and Ben O'Shaughnessy struck gold at the 49er Junior European Championship — a reward for a week of consistent, top-class sailing.
Strong performances also came from Lauren O'Callaghan and Charlotte Eadie, finishing 15th and Lucia Cullen and Alanna Twomey (RCYC) finishing 14th in the 49erFX class.

And to cap off an unforgettable week, Mark O’Connor crossed the finish line in a dramatic photo finish for 20th place, just 27 seconds ahead Antoine Canivet’s boat — becoming the youngest Irishman ever to cross the Atlantic solo! 🇮🇪☘️
After 16 days at sea, Mark completed an incredible transatlantic race — the result of four years of preparation, training, fundraising, and determination to bring his dream campaign to life.

What a phenomenal week of achievements across all levels of our sailing community — from global races to youth championships.
A huge well done and congratulations to all our sailors — both at home and abroad — for their dedication, hard work, and incredible achievements this week.
Your passion and perseverance continue to inspire us all!

The future is bright, and the sails are full!
Give all our sailors a follow on their socials and show your support along the way.
