Bloomfield Mental Health Services is a charity providing treatment, care, and support to adults with severe and enduring mental health needs, with specialist services for Huntington's Disease. Bloomfield was originially established as a hospital in Donnybrook in 1812, and moved to its current, state-of-the-art location in 2005. Bloomfield Mental Health Services provides inpatient treatment, care, and support for people with serious and enduring mental health needs (including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and psychosis), and is a specialist provider of treatment for Huntington's Disease, a rare, inherited disorder that affects the mind and body. Bloomfield is registered as an approved centre with the Mental Health Commission and referrals are accepted nationally. We are committed to providing excellence both in clinical treatment and care to patients and their families, and in training healthcare professionals and conducting clinical research.

Our Story

Bloomfield Mental Health Service is a service of Bloomfield Health Services and is an independent not for profit 114 bed facility located at the foot of the Dublin Mountains in Rathfarnham Dublin 16. It commenced its service provision in 1812 and was originally located in Donnybrook Dublin 4 until 2005 when it moved to its current location which provides a state of the art environment for the care and treatment of its patients and residents. Bloomfield Mental Health Service is owned by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and is based on their ethos and principles. Bloomfield Mental Health Service provides inpatient mental health services for persons with serious and enduring mental health issues in addition to complex mental health needs associated with neuropsychiatric conditions.The service is registered as an approved centre with the Mental Health Commission and continues to develop its leadership role in innovative and effective treatment programmes for its patients. Referrals are accepted nationally. While providing excellence in clinical treatment and care to patients and their families, we are committed to training healthcare professionals and to conducting clinical research designed to enhance treatment programmes for the continued improvement of outcomes for patients and residents and the overall enhancement of their quality of life. It has formal academic links and is a teaching hospital with Trinity College Dublin. Our ability to innovate and deliver on the promise of best practice is made possible through our team of highly trained, dedicated and committed professionals within our medical, nursing, clinical and support services here at Bloomfield Mental Health Service.
