Good health manifests as a result of balance within our bodies. This requires that all our organs work together in harmony and that energy and blood can flow freely, bringing vitality and essential nutrients to all of our cells. Unfortunately, if we do not experience harmony in our lives, physical harmony and good health are difficult to achieve and maintain. Modern lifestyles, the environment we live in and the constitution we are born with can all upset the balance and free flow needed within our bodies creating harm to our health. At Morning Star Acupuncture we provide acupuncture and phytobiophysics therapies which enable clients to regain balance at physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. The goal of treatments is not merely to overcome poor health, but to do so in a way which causes no side effects and which fosters a movement towards a more harmonious way of life. Morning Star Acupuncture Dublin is located at Elysium Sanctuary, 50 Sandycove Road, Co. Dublin. Elysium Sanctuary is conveniently located in Sandycove with easy access by bus, Dart and car. Morning Star Acupuncture Co. Meath is at the One Hour for Me Integrative Practice in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, which is located to the south end of Ashbourne Town, one minute from Junction 3 of the M2 and just 10 minutes from the M50 - M2 Junction.

Some more comments from recent clients and details of how I went about helping them:

Client with stress and also migraines and pms at period time: "I am feeling much better and feel that I've turned a corner with the migraines and stress management. I virtually have no pms symptoms this month. Thank you for all the help and support with this, it has been amazing and very insightful."

Client with marked shoulder pain for 9 months with no relief from numerous other treatments (comment after his second treatment): "just a quick text to say shoulder feels an awful lot better today. 80% less pain than normal."

Client with sudden hearing loss mentioned in a previous post: "The ear is doing great"

The treatment in all of these cases was heavily informed by Chinese Medicine Pulse Diagnosis, which I have invested a lot of time in learning from Dr Jimmy Chang - one of the most well regarded pulse diagnosis masters worldwide. A correct understanding of the pulse, through how it feels in various points near the wrist, can allow a practitioner to quickly understand dis-harmonies in the client's system and devise a treatment plan to bring balance and a return to health.

The use of moxibustion (moxa) - the burning of mugwort herb near the body in order to allow the correct flow of energy and blood - was crucial in the last two cases.

In the shoulder pain case this helped open up the client's spine (which pulse diagnosis showed was blocked), bringing energy up to his shoulder (in a healthy body energy will travel up the spine and be distributed to different parts of the body). In my opinion the pain was caused because energy and hence blood flow to his shoulder was very poor, leading to weakness and cold getting in to the joint. This meant that his shoulder couldn't manage regular gym sessions and sporting activities and got painful. The use of moxa helped clear the coldness and promote the correct flow of energy and blood to his shoulder.

In the hearing loss case, the client's pulse showed that there was a weakness, and again cold, in his spleen. The use of moxa again opened up his spine and allowed a healthy flow of energy to his spleen producing instant and prolonged improvement in his hearing.

At Morning Star Acupuncture we also provide Chinese Herbal Medicine in raw herb form. Depending upon the issue being treated, a number of herbs are combined, soaked and then boiled to create a "decoction". This decoction is then drunk twice per day over the next few days.

This mix was put together to help a 13 year old girl with a painful foot injury from her sports. After taking herbs she played a camogie match one week after her injury although she had to play in a position where she didn't have to do so much running. Now, almost two weeks out from her injury when I asked her how her foot is, she said "it's ok but the herbs help a lot".

I am quite active myself and find the herbs are a great treatment for sports injuries, with none of the side effects of anti-inflammatory and pain killing medications and help promote a speedy recovery.

They are also an excellent treatment for many other conditions, such as chronic pain, headaches, menstrual issues, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, urinary issues, stress/anxiety and many many more issues.

In my experience all illness and pain is due to life habits that result from an incorrect engagement of our inner feminine and masculine (yin and yang) natures. Unless wisdom (yin and yang in harmony) informs all of our choices there will be consequences, including illness and pain.

First, I believe that femininity is taking responsibility for our bodies, so that the body becomes the tangible expression of the spirit within.
For those of us who have lived life in the head, this is a long, difficult and agonizing process, because in attempting to release our muscles, we also release the pent-up fear and rage and grief that has been buried there, probably since or before birth .
Within ourselves we find a stricken animal almost dead from starvation and mistreatment. Because it has been punished for long, it acts at first like a wild neurotic creature that hasn’t known love. But gradually it becomes our friend, and because it understands the instincts better than we, it becomes our guide to a natural, spiritual way of life.
To find the natural rhythms of our bodies, to walk, to see, to hear, to feel with renewed sensitivity and perception, is to return to our birthright which is our gift from the Goddess.

My first animal treatment, a dog with "descending tummy, excessive drinking, she wants to mate with her mother, less energetic, reduced interest in running after her ball" going on for a good number of months.

After 6 acupuncture needles and some moxa:

"She is far better. Increased energy and a lighter look in her eyes. She is not drinking as much as doesn't wake us to go to the toilet.....She's not wanting to mate anymore with her mother! All in all Colin, a great improvement and thank you so much for giving her your expertise."
