We are happy to announce that St.Vincent's Private Hospital has been awarded the Ibec KeepWell Accreditation for a 3rd year in a row.

The KeepWell Mark is a framework which provides businesses with a set of Health and Wellbeing Standards. These Health and Wellbeing Standards are achieved through the internal promotion of wellbeing in the workplace.

In order to secure this yearly accreditation SVPH has to promote and ensure all departments are adhering to the pillars of the KeepWell framework and provide evidentiary proof.

These pillars are: Health & Safety, Leadership, Mental Health, Physical Activity, Health Eating, Smoke Free, Intoxicants, Absence Management, and Diversity - a new addition for 2024.

These pillars are not only a way for SVPH to ensure a happy and safe working environment for all of our staff, but they are also in-line with our ethos, values, and culture as both an employer and a private hospital.

Finally we would like to thank both Ibec and the The KeepWell Mark, as well as our KeepWell Values and Wellbeing Committee, for all of their hard work in ensuring SVPH retained this accreditation. But most of all for ensuring SVPH is a great place to work and progress.

St Vincent’s Private Hospital acquires New EggNest™ Radiation Protection System

Last week on Thursday the 4th January 2024: St Vincent’s Private Hospital (SVPH) has acquired the EggNest™ Radiation Protection System, to protect interventional staff from dangerous ionizing radiation.

Many interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory use X-Ray fluoroscopy, which requires a continuous x-ray beam to be directed at the patient's heart. The image is then transmitted to a television monitor so the consultant can see the structures and function of the heart during the procedure.

Although this imaging modality provides significant diagnostic and therapeutic benefits, during the procedure, radiation is deflected from the patient’s body and scattered to all areas of the lab. This scatter radiation from the X-Ray beam may pose a safety hazard to Cath lab personnel.

The EggNest is a scatter radiation protection system that significantly reduces scatter radiation and provides protection for the entire medical team. By using the EggNest, scatter radiation at the knee, waist, and upper torso of Cath lab personnel is reduced by up to 97%. This protection system is fully integrated into the workflow of the modern Cath Lab and moves with the patient, reducing radiation exposure for Cath lab staff without compromising their workflow or patient access.

Brian Fitzgerald, CEO of SVPH said: “The most important element of the care we provide to our patients is the quality of staff we employ, and we are committed to providing our staff with an excellent working environment. In addition to the lead apparel, our investment in Egg Medical’s EggNest System will minimize radiation exposure for staff working in our Cath labs and we are very pleased that its installation will give both protection and peace of mind to staff working in our hospital”.

The EggNest System was developed by Dr. Robert Wilson, founder of Egg Medical and a practicing Interventional Cardiologist at the University of Minnesota, where he has been on staff since 1986. The System is distributed in Ireland by M3/Uniphar Medtech who worked with SVPH on its installation.

Brendan McConnell, Director of Sales at M3 Medical noted, "We are truly excited to introduce EggNest to St Vincent's Private Hospital, Dublin, as it represents a significant advancement in radiation protection. This underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of healthcare professionals while optimal efficiency in critical cardiac procedures."

More information on the EggNest Radiation Protection System can be found at: https://eggmedical.com/.

St.Vincent's Private Hospital held its annual Charity Art Exhibition throughout November and early December this year.

Each year the staff and friends of SVPH are afforded the opportunity to showcase their artistic skills during our Charity Art Exhibition.

This exhibition is held in the SVPH Lobby and curated by one of our former staff members. The SVPH Charity Art Exhibition is an annual event organised by our Keep Well Values and Wellbeing Committee. It is always eagerly anticipated and was a great success, yet again.

Every year the artwork exhibited is even more impressive than the year before and there was a great deal of interest in all the pieces.

Through the sale of the artwork the SVPH 2023 Charity Art Exhibition raised over €1'000 for the Dublin Simon Community and the vitally important work that they do supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Dublin.

The Dublin Simon Community was founded in 1969 and since then has provided soup, sandwiches and hot drinks to people who are sleeping rough in Dublin city centre 365 nights a year. Dublin Simon also provides a number of additional services such as supported housing provision and advocacy and interventions for those who are at risk of homelessness.

The Dublin Simon Community supports people out of homelessness by supporting them to rebuild their lives through the provision of housing, health and wellbeing services. Dublin Simon Community also supports people by assisting them with accessing and retaining their own homes.

Last Week St.Vincent's Private Hospital held its first World Radiography Campaign for Patients and Staff at The Hospital. This event informed patients and staff about the benefits of Radiography and its positive impact on patient care.

World Radiography Day is an annual event which commemorates the discovery of X-Rays in 1895 by Wilhelm Roentgen. The event now acts as an awareness campaign about the importance of radiography and the crucial role that Radiographers, Radiation Therapists, Radiologists, and Radiation Oncologists play in the healthcare system.

World Radiography Day also highlights the advancements in medical imaging and promotes the safe use of radiation for diagnosis and treatment purposes.

The SVPH World Radiography Day 2023 was a great success and The Hospital looks forward to seeing how this annual event grows and develops in the coming years. Well done to the fantastic team who organised the Campaign and Information Stand.
