He’s our Retreats Officer! Here’s what Conor had to say 😊!

“Retreats are the perfect chance to allow beginners to engage with meditation for the first time or for anyone to deepen their practice. In your role as Retreat officer you will be in in charge of organising a retreat for the group at a time and place of your choice. The society has never gone on an extended retreat so this is still an exciting area to be explored. DU meditation does have a good relationship with some teachers and retreat centres which may serve as a basis for future trips. An organising committee may be formed to help with the organisation of any trip. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in developing event organising skills and anyone who is excited by the thought of spreading the practice of meditation to a wider college audience.”

We have two OCM positions up for grabs at our AGM next Monday! Here is what Logan, one of this year's OCMs and long time meditator had to say !!

"As your run-of-the-mill, ragtag, responsibility-shirking member of the college community, promises of a role characterised by ‘low-commitment’, ‘next to no work’ and ‘just a bit of a laugh’ appealed to guy like me who fearfully awaited actually having to sit down and do a bit of work in 4th year. To my surprise, not only did I find that OCM’s were much more of a valued member of the committee but also that the work we did was genuinely enjoyable! Generally, you’re expected to attend weekly meetings, set up cushions, chairs and tea for events, buying snacks for such events, contribute to ongoing projects where you can, lead a meditation or two at our Mindful Monday event here and there if you’re up for it and just about anything in between! Being apart of a society that values student wellbeing so highly is really refreshing and that’s something that is always palpable at both the events and meetings - from being able to be open at our signature Talk Time or with, say, having to miss a meeting here or there, forgetting to do something you were supposed to or just having a bad week and not engaging at events or anything so much - it was always clear the committee had your back. After being on committee for 3 years, I have to say I’m going to miss DU Meditation and the community we’ve built. But I’m even more excited to see all the amazing places next year’s committee are going to take the society. Peace x"

Any potential Events Liaison Officers out there? Here is what Charlotte has to say!

“As Event Liaison Officer your main role will be to help organise events with other societies and external meditators or speakers. It’s a fantastic role to hold as you get to speak to lots of other people to organise really incredible events. This year so far we had some amazing collaborations with other societies such as Yoga Soc, Vegan Soc, TAF and Cumann Gaelach and many more. We also had some amazing external people come in, such as for our infamous Shamanic Breathing Workshop. In this role there is the freedom to suggest any kind of events or collaborations you want! It is a great society to be a part of as it is very collaborative, whatever your role is everyone helps each other to create the best events possible!”

She’s our sexy Class Coordinator ! Here’s what Ciana has to say about the role!

“As class coordinator I ensure there are committee members available to attend each event we run. Each week I ask for people’s availability and see what events they want to go to, I then make up a rota for the week ensuring there are enough committee members to run the event.

Any questions feel free to message me.”

Thinking of becoming DU Meditation’s next Public Relations Officer? Here’s what this year’s PRO Ross had to say!

“I have been on the DU Meditation committee for three years now, and I can honestly say it has been one of my favorite experiences in college! In terms of responsibilities, I managed the social media pages, updating them with new events and information (i tried to have a lil fun with it too 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪). Otherwise I made posters and took plenty of pictures at all our wonderful events!

If you like design and organization I encourage you to run!! I had fun !! 😸”

Fancy the role of Treasurer? Here is what Aisling Leen has to say !

“As treasurer, I manage the society’s finances in conjunction with the Chair. The main tasks involve signing checks (this will be replaced by online transfers Cos it’s 2019 lol), applying for grants and balancing the books. Don’t be daunted - the csc supply plenty of training and I will be around next year if you have any questions.

The Treasurer is also a member of the Central Societies Committee, so this means that you must attend each CSC Term General Meeting on behalf of your society. At these meetings you will learn about the decisions made by the Executive committee, you will vote on issues affecting societies in Trinity and you will be able to voice any concerns your society might have. This part of the role is surprisingly enjoyable and it really opens your eyes to all the incredible work being done by societies around campus.

Personally I loved the role of treasurer because I knew I was playing a vital role in the running of the society but the work was never overwhelming, meaning I had plenty of time to organise events for the society too. My time with DU Meditation has been invaluable and I would encourage anyone to get involved.”

Interested in running for Secretary of DU Meditation? Here is what Aisling Daly had to say about the role.

“I loved being on the meditation society this year. Being the secretary was a wonderful position! My mum was so proud of me for all the hard work I put in. My responsibilities included sending the weekly emails, communicating with external speakers and groups, managing new memberships and organizing meetings. If you are organized and detail orientated I would recommend you to go for it! Hehe it’s so much fun I love all my sisters in DU Meditation”

Interested in running for Chair of DU Meditation on the 25th of March? Here’s what our current chair Czara Casey has to say about the role:

“Being the chairperson for DU Meditation has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my time here in college! Over the past three years I have had the joy of watching our society grow and flourish. I started off as OCM, then briefly served as PRO before being elected as chair. As chair, my job was to create a strategy for the year ahead and foster a good working atmosphere for the team. A chairperson is ultimately responsible for all the society’s activities and its relations with other college societies, college departments and external bodies. Other key tasks include coordinating committee members, giving the go-ahead for all society activities, chairing committee meetings and sharing joint responsibility for the society’s finances with the treasurer. If organisation and communication are your strong suits then this could be the perfect gig for you!

Chairing DU Meditation over the past two years has been so rewarding and I encourage anyone who feels enthusiastic about spreading mindfulness throughout campus to consider running for the position! - Cz xx”
