Recovery from Addiction is difficult on many levels personal, relational and societal. Often misunderstood and often carries a weight of stigma from society and policy makers. To be a Recoverist is to Champion the journey and promote Recovery in all its forms. People often on the margins of society who deserve equality in all aspects of life and opportunity to live the life they deserve. The foundation of all mindfulness practices is “Compassion". It begins with Compassion for self and then that compassion is transmitted to society. Much of what we know about Addiction is a social construct, a version of events that fits a narrative and keeps people hidden. Mindfulness allows us to create a space around these misunderstandings and can bring us into deeper awareness and open up conversations around how we can support recovery, change and inclusiveness. Through practices, dialogue and compassionate awareness, we can promote a greater sense of choice, compassion and freedom for all.
