Today, as part of Bereaved Children's Awareness Week, we launched a new book written by our Social Work Team, titled "Something Has Changed: For children and parents about illness and dying."
Niamh Finucane, Bereavement Coordinator, described the book as “a companion for families at a time when words can be difficult to find,” adding that the team’s aim was to offer clear, compassionate support to children while empowering parents to navigate conversations that can feel overwhelming.
Sinéad Kavanagh, local primary school teacher, social media creator, and someone with personal experience of the hospice’s care, kindly came on board as the book's ambassador, helped by her sons Conor and Oisín. Speaking from her personal experience and her observations as a teacher, she said, "Having something so powerful like this book for parents to use, with words that children can understand, is fantastic.”
