As part of our effort to reduce falls, we will be giving a ‘top tip of the day’ to reduce your risk of falls.

Tip of the Day #4
Sometimes when you are feeling unwell, you can feel dizzy when you transition from lying to sitting or standing. Take a moment between each transition and march your feet to reduce your risk of dizziness on standing.

Today, as part of Bereaved Children's Awareness Week, we launched a new book written by our Social Work Team, titled "Something Has Changed: For children and parents about illness and dying."

Niamh Finucane, Bereavement Coordinator, described the book as “a companion for families at a time when words can be difficult to find,” adding that the team’s aim was to offer clear, compassionate support to children while empowering parents to navigate conversations that can feel overwhelming.

Sinéad Kavanagh, local primary school teacher, social media creator, and someone with personal experience of the hospice’s care, kindly came on board as the book's ambassador, helped by her sons Conor and Oisín. Speaking from her personal experience and her observations as a teacher, she said, "Having something so powerful like this book for parents to use, with words that children can understand, is fantastic.”

With support from , the book is available free of charge from www.sfh.ie/shop.

As part of our effort to reduce falls, we will be giving a ‘top tip of the day’ to reduce your risk of falls.

Tip of the Day #3
When standing from a chair, bring yourself closer to the edge and push up to stand from the platform you are sitting on.

*If you use a mobility aid, avoid pulling on this to stand, or having a relative put their foot on it to secure it while you pull up to stand*

Our Walk and Talk bereavement group is free for adults in the community who are grieving. Members of our bereavement team will guide a walk in the fresh air, followed by a cuppa. It gives people a chance to talk to our bereavement team and other bereaved people who know what it is like living with grief.

Our next walk will take place on Tuesday 25th November at 10am. The meeting point is the entrance to the Red Stables. The walk will be followed by tea/coffee in Olive's Room Café.

The walk is suitable for most levels of mobility as it takes place on flat paths within the park. Please wear or bring suitable clothing to take part in the walk on the day, as the walk will go ahead in all-weather unless there is a weather warning.

Please register for the group on https://www.sfh.ie/for-patients-families/bereavement-care/bereavement-support-groups/ or by contacting the bereavement team on bereavement@sfh.ie or 01 832 7535.
