I get it. 🙋🏻

It’s dark and wet outside and opening up social media to see everyone and their granny posting about how it’s “Blue Monday” 😔

This isn’t going to make anyone feel better. So instead, use it as an opportunity to go and get some positive movement in for 20-30mins ✅

A lot of us don’t have to feel like crap today. Get out of your head and into some exercise for a little bit and then see how you feel 😊

Don’t get me wrong here, when I see someone pressing 3 plates I’m immediately like “respect” and I’m super jealous

BUT

When I see someone with a sub 40 RHR, I’m immediately like “f*ck that’s impressive” and I’m super jealous 🤣

A low RHR is a much greater indicator of overall health than how much one can bench press

Your heart is the most important muscle in your body and if you neglect it over aesthetic gains, eventually you will pay the price 💔

I’ve always had a sweet spot for some hard cardio but I know a lot of people despise all forms of it.

What you need to do is find a form of cardio that is relatively enjoyable for YOU and add it in 1-2 times a week

Over time your RHR markers will improve along with pretty much everything else 🤝

I go over this time and time again with people.

If you had a very social weekend drinking and eating everything in sight, then it’s even more important to do something 🍻 🍔

Be productive today and you’ll be way better off for it going into the week 💯

And way more likely to commit to those fitness goals

Get out and do something people 🏋🏼

If you don’t start you will never know⁉️

Stop wasting your time thinking if it’s the right move to do that jiu-jitsu class 🥋

Stop waiting for the right moment to come around before you go to the gym and start lifting weights 🏋🏼

What if you wait a whole year before you finally decide to go and then it turns out you absolutely love it (highly likely 🤷🏻)

Then you will have wasted a whole year contemplating instead of getting better

Maybe you won’t like it but at least you will 100% know❕

So JUST START, what are you waiting for? 🚀

Everyone knows how to eat well, everyone.

The problem is that when people decide to eat “healthy” they go all in and try change all their “bad” meals in one go 🤦🏻

Start slow

Maybe prioritise protein with your breakfast for the first few weeks and when you have that down, perhaps a well balanced lunch will follow 🍇🥩🥔

Don’t try do it all at once because most likely you will fall back into your old habits very quickly

One step at a time

A lot of people dislike going to the gym yet spend half an hour pointlessly warming up and end up being in there longer than they need to be 🤷‍♀️

A simple 3-4 minutes on an assault bike/ski/rower (at an EASY pace) followed by a few easy reps to target what ever area we are prioritising is all you need 💯

If we are squatting first thing we may warm up hips, adductors, quads maybe shoulders etc as well as mid section

If we are pressing we would warm up shoulders, lats etc but it’s kind of overkill warming up adductors if your just in to pump up the biceps

Your time is important so prioritise it accordingly 👍🏻

We all know it’s important to eat healthy 🥩 🍳 🍇

Eating minimally processed food, training 3-4 days a week and sleeping 7-8 hours is 🔑

But….

Reaching for some sort of fast acting highly processed carbohydrate rich food before training will NOT kill you

Look at it as serving a purpose, which it is. I am getting energy delivered quickly in order to use it for an impending session

You stick to the salads before a demanding exercise session and you are going to be sitting in the corner very quickly

Long live bagels & jam 🥯

Want to hear something funny and this is 100% true

Years back when training a client for the first time, I forgot to mention to her that she may be sore the next day or two due to the resistance training 🤫

Now down to my inexperience, I probably(definitely) had her doing too much volume for her first session…whoops

Anyways, the next day she went to the doctor cause she was so sore and didn’t know why 🤣

She survived surprisingly and you can too.

More times than not a little bit of movement will make you forget all about your DOMS. It may be an uncomfortable few mins starting but it’ll fade

A little DOMS every now and again is a nice feeling, but if you’re getting them after every session then it may be time to look at your overall sleep, nutrition, volume as we should adapt ✌🏼
