Counselling & Psychotherapy

Challenges are part of life, and the first step is often the most difficult. Nearly everyone faces challenges and difficulties in their life at some time. But sometimes they can be overwhelming and we may feel like we are helpless. Stress over a job, anxiety caused by uncertainty over the future, loss due to bereavement, problems over addiction or difficulties in a relationship are just some of the reasons why people feel they can benefit by talking to a professional counsellor or psychotherapist. We have achieved genuine success in working with and helping people struggling with depression, panic attacks, anxiety disorders and relationship difficulties of many kinds. We have helped people with other difficulties including:

• Stress
• Grief, loss and bereavement
• Conflict resolution
• Eating distress
• Sexual problems
• Su***de ideation
• Self-harm
• History of abuse or trauma

Oppositional Defiant Disorder is described in the DSM as a pattern of poor conduct. I’m reimagining how we would treat children if we see it as a pattern of regulatory vulnerability.

Abuse is not just physical; it’s in the words that are used.

Gaslighting is a tactic of coercive control that aims to make victims doubt their perception of events.

These are common phrases to manipulate victims and minimise the abuse.

➡️ You’re remembering it wrong
➡️ It was just a joke
➡️ That didn't happen
➡️ You always jump to conclusions
➡️ Here we go again
➡️ You're too sensitive
➡️ That's a lie

If you have heard these phrases, you are not alone. Your feelings are valid.

This we're raising awareness of different forms of domestic abuse and encouraging people to think about the language associated with it.

, we can help each other to spot the signs of unhealthy relationships and to escape abuse.

The other day I got an email from someone I respect very much asking me for some referrals. One of his questions was, “What makes a good trauma therapist?” Good, good, good question. An important one. If you’ve ever had to look for a good therapist...

Myth: All therapists are the same. Truth: All therapists are individuals and will have their own unique method of working. Therapy is a relationship, you may need to go the a number of therapists to find the right one for you.
