This Thursday, Nov 20th 730-830pm, we will be using the birth ball. A class that combines Pregnancy Yoga & Pilates so you can learn some really helpful & fun practices on the ball to support you during pregnancy. One of my most popular classes!
I hope this post is helpful for anyone that needs to buy a birth ball. Don’t wait til the end of pregnancy. They’re fab.
Buying a good quality anti-burst ball is important.
I would suggest asking around first as I’m sure your friends or family have one in their attic not being used!
When buying a birth ball you will need to check the size guide. Here is a rough size guide for your height:
55cm ball = 155cm-166cm height
65cm ball = 166cm-178cm height
75cm ball = 178cm-2m height
When sitting on a ball your hips need to be higher than your knees for better mobility, space for you & baby & there’s less constant pressure into your lower back & pelvic floor.
If you sit a lot during the day, try alternate between the chair & birth ball to help relieve pelvic and back pain.
You may need to buy a pump separately.
Some of benefits of using a birth ball during pregnancy and birth are:
🌺Helps maintain good posture during pregnancy
🌺Can help baby find a good position the last few weeks of pregnancy for birth.
🌺General comfort
🌺 Can be a huge relief during the stages of birth to sit on, lean into, during back labour, ease discomfort, promotes staying upright, mobile and uses gravity in a way you can still save energy
🌺 can be used for yoga, Pilates & other forms of exercise during pregnancy and after baby is born
🌺It can be a great prop to bounce on to help soothe a newborn instead of wasting your energy pacing the floor & save your shoulders!
