Project Completion | The Shipping Office
The Shipping Office is a landmark mixed-use development strategically positioned at the corner of Sir John Rogerson’s Quay and Lime Street in Dublin’s south docklands, serving as the “portal” to the Grand Canal Dock SDZ. The project thoughtfully integrates a 112-year-old Protected Structure [the former British and Irish Steam Packet Company building] by incorporating the red brick and stone heritage building into the new design, with the ground floor designated for retail use adjacent to a modern reception lobby and 3-story top-lit atrium.
The building’s distinctive facade features alternating triangular red fins inspired by the existing brickwork, providing both solar shading and visual character while creating a maritime-themed landmark reminiscent of red navigational buoys and the Liffey lighthouse. Designed to the highest environmental standards, the development targets BER A3 rating and LEED Platinum certification through high-performance building envelope, air source heat pumps, energy-efficient systems, and sustainable water management strategies. Setback terraces offer landscaping opportunities and visual relief, while the double-height facade order enhances the building’s slender proportions and establishes a prominent presence on this prime riverside site.
