Hello everyone,

I'm excited to announce the launch of my newly redesigned website, www.darraghfinlay.ie.

This new website is designed to enhance your experience. With its user-friendly interface, you can now easily book your sessions and access a wealth of information about my services, including Psychotherapy, Clinical Hypnosis, and RTT therapy.

I would like to thank Splash Web Design in Killorglin, Co. Kerry, for their professional work designing the new website and Fra Lucchesi Photography Park Street Dundalk for his expert photography and videos.

Whether you prefer online or face-to-face sessions in Dundalk, I am fully committed and prepared to meet your needs.

In addition, I am currently pursuing my Master's in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy at Queens University Belfast. This MSc is offered by a team of internationally recognised trauma researchers and clinicians and is one of the few specialist MSc programs in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy for trauma and related disorders available in Ireland, the UK, and Europe.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach that helps individuals address their issues by changing their thought patterns and behaviours. It is primarily used for the treatment of anxiety and depression but may also be beneficial for several other mental and physical health issues.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and check out my website:

Today, I am proud to announce that I have qualified as a Psychotherapist after four years of the BSc in Psychotherapy and Counselling at Middlesex University. This milestone wouldn't have been possible without my husband's steadfast support and encouragement. I am also profoundly grateful to my classmates and lecturers at the Belfast campus for their guidance and camaraderie and to my clinical placement at Northside Counselling Centre Coolock for the invaluable experience. In other news, I will begin my Master's in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in September and work on my new website.

The Amygdala Hijack; Anxiety, Fight, Flight and Freeze.
Our Amygdala is a gland in our brain shaped like an almond; it constantly gathers information from our environment to anticipate perceived threats.
When the Amygdala detects a threat, our emotional brain assumes control, and we enter flight, fight, or freeze mode. We no longer possess control. This is useful if, for instance, we are being attacked by a tiger; it is preferable to flee before deciding what to do.
Many people enter this Amygdala Hijack, Flight, Fight or Freeze mode when there is no actual threat—for instance, entering a room full of strangers or giving a presentation at work. When in this state, our minds are not logical, and we frequently make mistakes or say things we would not normally say.
The body produces adrenaline, cortisol, and glucose in response to this perceived threat. Symptoms may include a rapid heartbeat, tightness in the chest, nausea, headaches, a general feeling of discomfort, or a total body shutdown.
Long-term exposure to this stress level can result in various physical ailments, including high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity.

How are your stress levels? Do you recognise any of these symptoms in your life? If so, feel free to DM me, call 085 8541152 and email darragh@darraghfinlay.ie 😃

Social Anxiety:

What is Social Anxiety:

Social anxiety is a fear of social interactions in work, family or socially.

Social Anxiety Symptoms include :

Fear of meeting people and getting judged.
Feeling self-conscious or embarrassed around others.
Feeling anxious about conversing with strangers or overpowered in social or work situations.
Fear that others will see that you are tense or socially awkward.
Not wanting to be the centre of attention.

Some simple and helpful remedies include:

Journaling about your fears and looking for evidence to support them.
Gradual exposure to social situations.
Ask a friend or loved one to accompany you, have a plan, maybe a code word.
Repeat a mantra to yourself. E.g. "I have phenomenal coping skills."
Practice deep breathing.

Social anxiety often develops in early childhood and has a reason or benefit in the unconscious mind.
In RTT, we work together to find these hidden reasons and work on transforming them.

Have you ever suffered from Social Anxiety? How do you deal with social anxiety? I would love to hear from you.

Cognitive Distortions And Looping Thoughts.

Cognitive distortions are internal mental filters or prejudices contributing to anxiety and a negative self-image. Also known as looping negative thoughts that repeat in our minds.

Examples of Cognitive Distortions Include:

Black-and-white (or all-or-nothing) thinking: My life is a disaster. I am not Good Enough.

Jumping to conclusions (or mind-reading): People dislike me.

Personalisation: I am useless and hold everyone back.

Should-ing and must-ing: (using self-critical language): I must lose weight. I should be better at this. I shouldn't feel anxious.

Overgeneralization: I'll never find a job.

Magnification and minimisation: (emphasising the negative and downplaying the positive): There was only one healthy supper.

Comparing yourself in the negative: She is more pretty than I am; everyone will love her, not me.

Catastrophising and foretelling the worst outcome: I will fail all of my exams.

What looping thoughts or cognitive distortions are holding you back?

Core Beliefs

Our core beliefs are our presumptions about the world, others, and ourselves. These beliefs are deeply ingrained in our minds and significantly impact our reality and behaviour. They are where many problems begin, including our ingrained negative thoughts. Core beliefs are presumptions that are frequently inaccurate evaluations from childhood. However, they also perpetuate themselves and collect evidence in their favour. But the good news is that they can be changed by becoming aware of them.

Rapid Transformational Therapy™ and Darragh Finlay Overview

I am an experienced therapist specialising in Rapid Transformational Therapy™️, Hypnotherapy, Bio-Energy and Metta Meditation. After 15 years in corporate sales, I began to sense that I was in a never-ending cycle of unfulfilling work. I realised that I had become part of the problem, allowing myself to be consumed by deadlines, pressure and targets while never actually contributing to the greater good. In 2012 my exciting journey started with my training in Bio-Energy Therapy and Meditation. As my journey progressed, I decided to train in Rapid Transformational Therapy and Hypnosis. My private practices are based in Dublin and Dundalk, where I work with clients on a one-to-one basis. I also work in group settings and offer staff wellness programs for corporate organisations. Another huge passion of mine is designing bespoke retreats combining Rapid Transformational Therapy, Bio-Energy healing, and Tibetan meditation with mindful movement practices in stunning locations around Ireland.

About Rapid Transformational Therapy™

Rapid Transformational Therapy embraces many of the positive aspects of hypnosis and hypnotherapy that are known to produce a transformative effect on clients: the use of trance, regression, and hypnotic conditioning. However, RTT goes beyond, diagnosing what works with clients to build a new therapeutic approach. Unlike many hypnotherapists, RTT does not rely solely on positive reinforcement. Too often this is the sole focus for hypnotherapists. While using correct, up-to-date, and relevant language when talking to yourself is certainly a part of any transformation, it serves as more of a reinforcement of breakthroughs, rather than the catalyst of them. I am able to reach breakthroughs via hypnosis that would not be possible if they were simply trying to reach your subconscious mind via altered language and self-talk. I am equipped with an array of techniques and tools that are crucial, not just in teaching you how to communicate with your subconscious mind, but also directly accessing and fixing whatever blockages may be there. Central to that is the ability to transform many clients in a single session.

How Does It Work? Marisa Peer, the founder of this methodology, identified that regardless of their issue, in sessions clients benefitted from her applying a particular set of techniques in a particular way that almost always brings about phenomenal changes for the clients. These insights provided the foundations for Rapid Transformational Therapy to emerge as a distinctive therapeutic approach. In diagnosing what works with real clients in real sessions, Marisa has developed a unique therapy and a range of different techniques and tools that I may draw on dependent on a clients’ presenting challenges. I have been trained to use these tools in a skillful and exploratory way following extensive training, ongoing support, and supervision.
