📢 Participants Wanted – Help Shape the Future of Support for Older Adults with Intellectual Disability 🧠👵👴

Carriglea Cáirde Services is pleased to share this important invitation from Trinity College Dublin researchers at the TCAID centre, who are conducting the AARC-ID Study – exploring the economics of ageing with an intellectual disability.

They’re looking to speak with:
✅ Family members or informal carers of an adult aged 40+ with an intellectual disability
✅ Service providers such as key workers, healthcare professionals, or allied health staff who support adults 40+ with intellectual disability

Your insights can help shape national policy and improve services. Participation involves a one-on-one interview or focus group – whichever works best for you – and all input is confidential.

Challenges and supports around ageing with an intellectual disability

What’s working well, and what could be improved

Ideas to inform service planning and equitable ageing supports

🍦🎉 Ice Cream + Fun = A Sweet Success! 🎨🎶

On Tuesday, June 17th, the wonderful Fairlane group hosted an Ice Cream Funday in support of Down Syndrome Ireland – and what a fun day it was!

The event brought together many of our service users for a celebration full of smiles, music, face painting, colouring, and (of course!) lots of delicious ice cream. 🍨✨

Even better, through all the fun and generosity, we raised an amazing €372.22 for a truly fantastic cause. 💜 A big thank-you to everyone who contributed, took part, or helped out on the day. Your support made it both meaningful and memorable.

We’re already counting down to next year’s Ice Cream Funday! 💫

🏅 Carriglea Athletes Take on Their First Triathlon! 💪🌊👟

On Wednesday, June 18th, four of our fantastic athletes from Carriglea Cáirde Services set off for a big adventure – their first-ever triathlon! Hosted by Horizons Cork , this brand new challenge was no small feat, combining rowing, running, and swimming into one exciting (and exhausting!) event.

Each athlete rose to the occasion with determination and enthusiasm, giving it their all from start to finish. The course was tough, but their focus never wavered – and they were rightly thrilled to receive their finisher’s medals at the end. 🥇🎉

This was more than just a race – it was about pushing limits, embracing new experiences, and celebrating achievement. We couldn’t be prouder of their effort, courage, and Carriglea spirit!

Well done to everyone involved, and a big thank-you to the wonderful hosts at Horizons for making it a memorable and rewarding day. 👏👏

🎉 Carriglea Cáirde Services Shine at Special Olympics Soccer Tournament! ⚽

On Saturday, June 21st, our incredible soccer team made their tournament debut at the Special Olympics Provincial Soccer Tournament, held at the fantastic MTU sports grounds in Cork. And what a debut it was – the boys did themselves and all of Carriglea proud, securing an impressive second place in their division! 🙌👏

The day kicked off with three exciting divisioning games, followed by two competitive matches. Our opening match was against a very strong Ballincollig side who came out flying, putting immense early pressure on our defence. For a period, shots were raining down on our goal, but our outstanding goalkeeper Donagh Condon rose to the challenge, pulling off a number of brilliant saves that kept us in contention. 🧤💪

What followed was an absolute thriller! Our second match had everything – skill, heart, and pure determination. It ended 2-2 in normal time, and 3-3 after extra time. With a winner needed, we headed to penalties! Despite a long, demanding day, our boys dug deep. Thanks to five ice-cool penalty takers – and the calm presence of our goalie once again – Carriglea edged it 5-4. The celebrations? Absolutely electric – and still going! 🎊⚽🔥

We’re incredibly proud of this group and their achievement. A huge congratulations to all the players, and heartfelt thanks to our amazing staff and coaches whose support and encouragement helped make the day such a success. 💙💛

📣 Special Olympics Munster Athletics Competition – MTU Cork 🏃‍♂️🥇

What a triumphant day for Carriglea Athletes!

On Saturday, 7th June, 28 Athletes from Carriglea Cáirde Services travelled to MTU Cork to compete in the Special Olympics Munster Athletics Competition. For ten of them, it was their very first time competing at a Special Olympics event — and what a debut it was!

🏅 Our Athletes shone brightly, bringing home an incredible 16 Gold, 7 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals! This event was also a qualifier for the 2026 National Games in Dublin, and we’re thrilled that all of our gold medallists now move forward to the Team Munster selection process this September. Best of luck to all – we’re hopeful for strong Carriglea representation at next year’s Games!

A huge thank you to the Carriglea Fundraising Committee, whose generous support funded 30 brand-new Carriglea tracksuits – our team looked fantastic and wore them with pride! 👕💙

To our amazing staff – thank you for your constant encouragement, enthusiasm, and support. You helped make the day memorable and joyful for everyone involved.

🌟 We're Hiring! Join Carriglea Cáirde Services 🌟

At Carriglea Cairde Services, we provide a comprehensive range of day, residential and respite services to approximately two hundred individuals who utilise our Services.

Our goal is to develop skills and opportunities, to build lasting friendships and to promote independence through meaningful and active lives.

Student Posts - Flexible Evening and Weekend hours.

Due to continued expansion of services in our community homes we are seeking third level students who have completed and passed Year 1 of their 3rd level degree course to apply for flexible evening and weekend roles.

These hours would generally be 4pm to 9pm weekday and 12 hour shifts Saturday and Sunday on alternate weekends.

The successful candidates will provide support and follow relevant programs for adults with an intellectual disability. This will involve working with the service users, their families and other staff in developing a person centered plan for each individual.

Applicants must demonstrate genuine kindness, empathy and patience in the daily interaction with service users in a person centered service. Successful candidates will be required to support service users in a socially inclusive model.

Applicants will be required to undertake domestic and cleaning duties and tend to the personal needs of the service users in their care.

Applicants should have Year 1 of their 3rd level degree passed, have a kind and compassionate disposition, lots of enthusiasm and be a great team player.

📣 This Friday, 30th May, is International Prader-Willi Syndrome Day and here at Carriglea Cáirde Services, we’re proudly showing our support! 🧡

There are an estimated 150 people in Ireland living with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) — a rare genetic condition often characterised by symptoms such as hyperphagia (uncontrollable hunger), low muscle tone, learning difficulties, and anxiety.

To help raise awareness, we’ll be taking part in our own Awareness Walk and wearing orange in solidarity with the -willi syndrome a Prader Willi Syndrome Association Ireland (PWSAI)
