Evidence Based Summaries: Acupuncture as a Therapeutic Treatment for Anxiety
๐Ÿ”— https://www.evidencebasedacupuncture.org/acupuncture-anxiety/

๐Ÿ‘‰ it is exciting to know that studies show has an effect on both the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS).

โœ… - has been shown to improve the bodyโ€™s ability to cope with stress through improving Heart Rate Variability (HRV).

๐Ÿ˜ก When the body is under stress, an area of the brain called the hypothalamus releases neurochemicals, and research shows that acupuncture can calm this response ๐ŸŽฏ

๐Ÿฅฐ Acupuncture has also been shown to increase the release of endorphins, the bodyโ€™s own โ€˜feel-goodโ€™ chemicals, which play an important role in the regulation of physical and emotional stress responses such as pain, heart rate, blood pressure, and digestive function.

๐Ÿ™Œ All of these acupuncture mechanisms have a direct effect on reducing anxiety ๐Ÿ‘

Please visit the website for the full evidence summary and feel free to share! Thank you for your support and donations - it helps us to continue producing educational materials for the community ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Can Acupuncture Improve Chronic Spinal Pain?
Any type of symptom that lasts 3 months or longer is considered chronic.

In short yes and it does it extremely well.

The results of the researchers analysis showed, acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment for patients with chronic spinal pain.

The researchers looked at research studies from 22 Randomised Controlled Trials involving 2588 patients. These types of trials measure the effectiveness of a treatment. They are recognised as gold standard when it comes to reducing bias. This means as much as is humanely possible it is purely the evidence that is looked at in an open minded way. Meta-analysis (this means looking at a number of studies on the same subject) revealed a significantly superior effect of acupuncture compared with conventional therapies.

When compared to medications, massage and physical exercise Acupuncture had a superior effect in reduction of chronic spinal pain and function improvement.

Medications whilst great in the short term, have side effects and can lead to other significant health issues. Some examples are digestive issues, malabsorption of nutrients and drug dependence. Acupuncture is safe and it's side effects are improved sleep quality and decreased stress levels. When anybody is in pain, they just want it to go away, and decisions are made based on the most immediate effect. Often people don't realise how quickly acupuncture works. Any oral medication you take for pain takes time to absorb and acupuncture is simply faster. Whilst it does require repeat sessions, it is not forever.

Your body makes your own natural painkillers called encephalins. Acupuncture via your nervous system enables your body to release those again. This allows blood flow to increase to the area of pain and your bodys own immune system can then get to work.

Physical exercise is always beneficial to your health, but for some people, the pain is so intense, this becomes impossible or at the very least challenging. We all perceive pain differently and there are many factors that impact the level of pain people have. Regardless, acupuncture can treat all types of pain.

Acupuncture for Migraines

Migraine Awareness Week 2021 is a campaign to spread awareness on the treatment of migraines from 5th โ€“ 11th September.

Migraine is a common health condition, affecting around 1 in every 5 women and around 1 in every 15 men. They usually begin in early adulthood and can be extremely debilitating. However, Chinese medicine may be able to get to the root of the problem.

According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture has been proved through controlled trials, to be an effective treatment for headache.

Studies suggest that acupuncture can reduce the frequency of headache in people suffering from migraines. People who receive acupuncture experience a reduction in migraine days, frequency, and intensity.

Some headache specialists believe that acupuncture should be the first choice of treatment for migraines.
