☀️Ahead of August Bank Holiday weekend, Water Safety Ireland are reminding people that rip currents are a major cause of accidental drownings but can be notoriously difficult to spot. Swimmers and particularly those who may be visiting an unfamiliar area are encouraged to learn the warning signs, read local safety notices and seek advice before entering the water🌊

📢To avoid a rip current:
*Choose a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags which have been marked based on where it is safer to swim in the current conditions.
*Wear a bright coloured swimming cap
*Swim with others, never go alone.

📢If you do find yourself caught in a rip:
*Don’t try to swim against it or you’ll get exhausted
*If you can stand, wade don’t swim
*If you can, swim parallel to the shore until free of the rip and then head for shore
*Always raise your hand and shout for help
*If you see someone in difficulty or suspect they are in difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard

Clare County Council are appealing to the public not to remove ring buoys from their locations beside bodies of water, where they serve as lifesaving devices.

Life buoys are placed along Clare’s coastline, rivers, canals, and lakes, providing a safe way for people to conduct a rescue without entering the water. The device is thrown to a person to provide buoyancy and prevent drowning. These lifebuoys are vital for ensuring the safety and well-being of those in, on and near the water.
It is a criminal offence to tamper with or steal ring buoys, and that the gardaí will prosecute anyone caught doing so.

A stolen life buoy means a stolen life.

Tá Comhairle Contae an Chláir ag achainí ar an bpobal gan baoithe fáinne a bhaint dá suíomhanna in aice dobharlach, áit a bhfeidhmíonn siad mar ghléasanna tarrthála beatha.

Cuirtear baoithe tarrthála feadh líne chósta, aibhneacha, chanálacha agus lochanna an Chláir, agus iad ina modh sábháilte do dhaoine tarrtháil a dhéanamh gan dul isteach san uisce. Caitear an gléas chuig duine chun snámhacht a sholáthar agus chun bá a chosc. Tá na baoithe tarrthála sin ríthábhachtach chun sábháilteacht agus folláine na ndaoine sin atá san uisce, ar an uisce agus in aice an uisce a chinntiú.

Is cion coiriúil é cur isteach ar bhaoithe fáinne nó iad a ghoid, agus ionchúiseoidh na Gardaí aon daoine a ghabhtar agus iad ag déanamh amhlaidh.

Is ionann baoi tarrthála goidte agus beatha ghoidte.
