As the 2024 Olympics have come to a close, we look back at the many times throughout the games where fine margins were the difference between winning a medal or not. The margins between success and failure were so fine in some cases the thickness of a finger nail the difference. The elation, smiles, tears of joy, celetrations were for all to see from the medal winners but for all the competitors who gave their all but were beaten by the finest of margins “take a bow” we also applaud you for the superb effort.

To train so hard physically and mentally over the last four years and be beaten by the finest of margins can be very hard to take. It can be mentally draining, going through it all over again in your head wondering ‘how did I miss out on a medal’. Ruminating negative thoughts can start to spiral out of control. You may start questioning yourself, your ability, your beliefs and wonder where the renewed motivation for the next four years is going to come from.

Finding the strength and awareness to stop your mind racing is all part of the healing process. Your mind will start to slow down once you take the time out to recharge and regroup. The burning desire will return, the dreams you had will reignite once again and the pain of loss will subside. Tapping into the great team of people around you will be critical around this time in helping you refocus on the journey ahead.

How many stories of Olympians have we heard throughout the years where set back after set back, near miss after near miss all changed like the flick of a switch? Sometimes the universe has a way of testing your resilience to see will we keep going, keep getting up and keep staying positive when your dream is starting to fade away. These games may not have been your time for a medal but what you have learned and take into your future is the key to the answer.
The fine margins you need and the stones that need to be overturned will all fall into place over the coming weeks and months. The exciting journey ahead awaits you with open arms, take this wonderful opportunity with a smile on your face!

Let the next chapter begin with renewed hope that the greatest winner of all is people coming together to celebrate the Olympic Games.

Do you ever feel like curling up in a ball, hibernating or just looking for a hideaway for some peace and quiet? The world we live in today is so fast paced our minds are screaming out for down time but do we listen? Between screaming voices inside our head saying do this, do that, be here, be there. Being pulled and dragged every way. Sound familiar?

Sometimes there can be no let up from one end of the day to the other. You may often wake during the night with the screaming voices again or you wonder will this ever give me a break.

There is nothing wrong with sometimes saying ‘enough’ to the pressures at work ‘enough’ to the pressures at home or ‘enough’ to people coming to you all the time looking for the answers. There is nothing wrong with you finding a nice hideaway so that you can have me time. A safe place where nobody interrupts, a place where the healing and re charging occurs.

Awareness is key in knowing when your pressure cooker is about to blow its top. Dailey and weekly time for yourself can often be a big step to take but the results will be truly amazing. When we pencil me time in your everyday, your body, mind and soul will be grateful beyond words. When we recharge we show up with more energy, more patience and most importantly we show up as the best version of ourselves.

My haven for peace and quiet is the great outdoors, whether it’s hiking a mountain, a calm stroll through a local woodland, having fun and laughter with friends and family or taking in the sounds of a beautiful stream or river or just lying soaking up the sunshine rays with a gentle breeze on my face. That to me is magic

When you feel the world is getting on top of you, say ‘enough is enough’ it’s time for me.

How many times have you had a good idea and someone said ‘a sure that wouldn’t work’

A lot of the time they hadn’t even tried it themselves our it didn’t sit right with their own beliefs

If you have a good idea that you feel is going to work don’t tell it to a small minded person

Believe in yourself and like the frog be deaf to the nay sayers

Good decisions are not made by those who are running on empty (read that first line again). Burnout is increasingly an issue among workers today. The fast-paced nature of the workplace, coupled with the expectation of constant availability, can make employees feel overwhelmed and stressed.

The question is are we going to do something about it? Or are we going to keep burying the head in the sand. The human body, mind and soul is an incredible work of art, taking us from A to B, figuring out complex ideas and doing things now, that were unachievable and unimaginable from years gone by.

Yes, it’s good to push the body and mind so we move outside our comfort zone but we have to see ourselves like an elite athlete where there is downtime, rest, sleep and time where we can slow the mind down. Like anything in life if you keep putting enough strain on something it will eventually break.

After years of pushing hard, I saw the effects of burnout myself. I had little energy, little motivation and little joy and happiness but thankfully at this stage change did happen for me. It’s just unfortunate that we have to reach this stage before we stop taking our bodies for granted and appreciate the true gift we have been given.

Good intentions aren’t enough to create meaningful change. You have to be religious in keeping the small promises you make with yourself regarding your physical and mental well-being otherwise it’s a vicious circle of being overwhelmed, stressed and constantly tired. The daily promises you make with yourself will keep this human work of art in pristine condition and the results you will receive will be amazing.

Being rootless at times is the key for your wellbeing, saying ‘No’ to thing’s and people that give you no energy and saying ‘Yes’ to good food, rest, fun and joyful journeys is the key.

Always remember taking care of yourself doesn’t mean me first, it means me too.

Thank you to Grow Mental Health Limerick in having me in as a speaker last night.

I had a lovely evening of meeting and chatting with wonderful people. Getting the word out there about mental health and the services that are available is never more important.

Reaching out in time of need is a great strength, not a weakness. Taking the first step is so important.

Mental Health issues are at an all time high, we have to come together as a united team to start making a difference and turn this around.

Every new day is an opportunity to do good in the world. As we speak there are many people suffering in silence with mental health issues…

Someone you cross paths with today maybe one of those people. Be kind with your words and give people a safe space to be heard…

We are all on a journey together, helping each other along the way is a great start. The power is when we unite together as one.

It’s hard to make good decisions if you’re burnt out, stressed and running on empty…

Taking time out is the 🔑 otherwise mistakes will happen, stress levels will rise and productivity will decrease…

Today was a morning to clear the To-Do-List and head for the majestic views from the ‘Graves Of The Leinster Men’ in Tipperary…

A snow capped hill was an added bonus which is always a delight and also brings out the inner child in us 😊

Make nature the place to recharge, to slow the busy mind down and increase happiness levels 🌿

Have you stopped lately and looked back on the road you have travelled? Sometimes we forget how far we have come on our journey and we also forget to give ourselves the credit for getting there. Maybe you’re at a stage on your journey where you’re thinking about quitting, before you do, look back again and see how far you have come and remember why you started this journey in the first place.

It’s often a dream or a vision that starts you off on a journey, from the first step to the many miles you have now accumulated on the clock. You might have been trying to prove a point, someone may have said something that didn’t fit with your vision or beliefs and you said ‘I will prove them wrong.’ Whatever fuel feeds your fire each day use it to keep going.

The journey we often take has many highs and many lows, it’s often the many failures that give us the calluses and the answers for the miles ahead. The endless hours, the questioning yourself, all the sweat, the sleepless hours, the worry are all testing you to see if you can we keep going. Celebrating the small achieved goals on the journey is the key and when the tough days come, you can tap into these achievements to give you the boost you need to keep going.

Yes, it’s a risk you take on a journey that at times nobody can see but you, but isn’t it better to take the risk then coming to the end of your days wondering ‘What if’ all does years ago I took a chance on myself. It’s a long road to success for most and finding the strength to keep going on a day when the cash flow is running low, when you can’t seem to get the few seconds of your personal best time or the answers to your questions aren’t there, as hard as it is those that take a weary step forward will eventually be rewarded.

All the true life stories of how hard it was on the journey for people and teams that are now successful are all there for us to hear. They all found a way to take the little step that kept them going when quitting was easier. If today is one of those tough days, give yourself the credit of how far you have come and believe with faith your day will come.
