1. Are you a registered physio?
Yes, we are all registered physiotherapists. You can check the register at https://www.iscp.ie/find-a-physio

2. Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No, you do not.

3. Does insurance cover physiotherapy?
It should. Every policy is different but on a whole most insurance policies allow a certain number of physiotherapy sessions.

4. How many sessions are required?
We don’t prescribe a certain number of sessions. We will assess and diagnose you in the first session and guide you in relation to time frames for recovery. Everyone is different. Some people need just the one physio session, others will need a few.

5. What should I wear?
If it is your arm/ shoulder/ mid back a string top is perfect. Sports bras can have awkward straps so they aren’t advisable. If it is your lower back/ legs we ask you to please bring shorts.

6. Is physiotherapy painful?
It can be - but it is temporary for long term relief!

7. How do I book an appointment?
Ring: 065 686 4000
Email: info@excelphysio.ie
Dm us on instagram

8. Do you have late evenings / Saturdays?
We do, however, these appointments book up extremely fast. We are lucky enough to have 9 physios with us so we will hopefully be able to accommodate you.

9. Can you refer for a scan?
Yes, we can refer you for an MRI should it be necessary, (Provided you’re not with VHI - for now they require a GP referral).

10. How much does it cost?
Physio sessions are €60.

Shockwave, alternatively known as Extracorporeal Shockwave therapy (ESWT), a non-invasive treatment using sound waves to address musculoskeletal conditions.

It delivers focused high-energy acoustic waves to the affected area stimulating the body’s natural healing processes to reduce pain, improve blood flow and break down scar tissue and calcification. ESWT is used for various conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow etc. ESWT has shown promise in treating conditions that have not responded well to other treatments.

We are lucky enough to be one of the few clinics in Clare to have a shockwave machine and use it daily to facilitate treatment.

Dry needling involves the insertion of very thin needles into the targeted muscle with the aim of alleviating tension, increasing blood flow and desensitising the affected area. Dry needling can be performed at either superficial or deep tissue levels.

Dry needling can be a highly effective treatment modality but it should not be thought of as a ‘miracle cure’. For best results, it is vital to adhere to any prescribed exercise plan and follow any advice given by your physiotherapist. All of our physiotherapists are trained in dry needling.

Dry needling is based on Western principles and is not to be confused with the Traditional Chinese Medicine technique of Acupuncture.
