Children need to be seen and accepted for who they are, but more importantly from a developmental perspective. We live in a society where it is expected that children meet adults expectations. But, if we want children to grow up into confident and self assured adults, we need to meet children where they are at in their age and stage of development rather than what we think or what society expects 🥰🌈

How do we do this:
✅ Take the time to notice your child, name and identify how they appear infront of you.
✅ Take the time to play with your children even if it’s only for 10 minutes.
✅ Offer child centred decisions that is appropriate for their age and stage of development - adult decisions are simply not appropriate - it is simply too much for their brains to comprehend and regulate

❌ Avoid asking question after question
❌ Try to refrain from invalidating their everyday feelings. What is big for them is small for us adults ☝🏼
❌ Never assume that because you’ve told them something once, that they will remember. Religion is key.
❌ Avoid using the word ‘should.’ For example: ‘you’re 10 years of age, you shouldn’t be behaving like that.’

✨WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY✨

What a lovely way to celebrate World Mental Health Day organised by with a lovely message of Hope, Community and Healing ❤️

The significance of having our door open is a true representation that each person is always welcome at Play to Heal no matter who you are ❤️ when the door is open we are either waiting for our client to come in, say our goodbyes or wishing them well for the week ahead.

What does it mean though to wait for your client coming in for therapy? Do you often find that you might have big feelings as a therapist coming up when waiting for new client especially. It’s almost feeling excited, nervous, unsure and hopeful. Unsure in the sense that it might not be a good fit or Visa Versa, you click really well with the client 🙏🏼

Often the feelings that present there and then are a true reflection of how the client is feeling before they come especially if they are coming for therapy first time, and that feeling dissipates almost immediately.

I have had a feeling recently while waiting for a parent. I had a feeling of uncertainty more than anything and I wasn’t sure whether I was the right therapist for this family. This turned out to be the case and so my feelings were absolutely 💯 correct in this situation.

This is not a regular occurrence but it does happen in private practice and it’s how we manage this piece as safely as possible for parents 🥰

I have a little time to reflect as I sit here in peace between therapy sessions 🙏🏼This is my first week back after a wonderful two weeks away.

I wasn’t on holiday per se but more on a self discovery of learning the fine art of becoming a yoga teacher. This is an opportunity to delve into your own self, push outside your comfort zone, push past the negative voice in your head telling you that you can’t do something.

You absolutely can do it and you will. These two weeks have been a profound journey for me personally and I am so glad I have done it. Not only am I a qualified yoga teacher but I have the confidence to move forward.

I have made the most amazing connections. The support & holding in this two weeks has shown me the power of when space is held for another, the profound impact of seeing the other and healing that can happen within that alone.

I feel fulfilled, challenged and my heart is full.

Thank you .official for providing this wonderful space 🙏🏼✨❤️🫶🏼

🤍🕊️ Grief & Loss🕊️🤍

What a weekend it has been ✨We celebrated your 1st year Anniversary dad 🥺I really don’t know where the time has gone. Grief is a funny experience. It’s heavy on the body, it’s confusing, you question your own life and mortality within that realm. One minute you’re ‘fine’ and next minute out of nowhere it hits you 💔

It’s extremely difficult putting this into words but we know dad you’re at peace up there. You’ve fought long & hard. You’ve shown us what bravery, strength, love and determination really look like 💕

Healing isn’t a linear process, but more so coming back to safety within your body and finding ways that help anchor that. What a journey this year has been.

‘While grief is a personal and painful experience, it is also a testament to the love & connection we have with those who we have lost.l’ (Julie Herbert) ❤️✨

Play is powerful. 💜

Children might not always have the words to express how they feel. Play Therapy gives children a safe space to explore their emotions, build confidence, and learn to communicate their needs in a way that makes sense to them.

Play Therapy helps children to express and process a range of feelings such as anger, frustration, sadness and overwhelm. From drawing and role play to toys and sensory activities, play becomes their language — and we’re here to listen.

“In the play therapy experience, toys are like the child’s words and play is the child’s language.” – Garry Landreth
