Shannon Cryotherapy Clinic Ltd offers its clients an innovative and radical treatment protocol unlike any seen in this country before. The basis of the treatment revolves around the use of stimulating cold dry air at a temperature of -110degC, thus, using ‘cold’ as it has been used for generations, in the treatment of a wide ranging spectrum of conditions involving localised inflammation and acute

pain but with the added advantage of a vastly improved and reduced recovery period. Moreover, whole body cryotherapy is safe, controlled and now inclusive of scientific medical findings (Dept Sports Science and Physical Ed., University Of Limerick, 2011) that fundamentally prove its effectiveness in muscle temperature reduction thus producing the anti-inflammatory response. In house, the clinic also combines the whole body cryotherapy treatment with physical therapy modalities, a treatment which incorporates a Home Care Advice plan, to further enhance the client’s recovery and rehabilitation, as well as one to one advice to the client on injury prevention, strength/conditioning, nutrition & personal well-being. Post for All the Dublin Marathon runners knee deep in your 'Long Runs' presently. An offer of packages for you to ease those aches & pains(Groups welcome too!) & recover your body in the best possible way.
1. Cryo(a "nippy" 5 degrees submerge, for comparison our great Atlantic Ocean is approx 12 degrees!) +Infra Red Sauna Blanket(30mins at a toasty +65 degrees before a 2nd dip! Contrast Therapy of Cold-Hot-Cold to improve circulation & flush out all that lactic acid build up. Cost of 40euro based on single person appointment(slightly cheaper if bringing a buddy.
2. If contrast is not your thing then why not avail of Infra Red(30mins) followed by 30mins in our 'Compression Boots. Feel the gentle press on your legs as compression starts on feet & works up for total legs regeneration. Cost 35euro based on single person appointment.
3. Same as 1& 2 but throw in a 30min soothing massage aswell that includes stretching of primary muscles plus tips on reducing/minimising fluid retention in joints, primarily ankles/knees & hips. Cost 50euro!

Patella Tendonitis. A very common condition, particularly with road runners but also sports such as basketball/volleyball. A thickening of the tendon(inflammatory)that runs over your kneecap. A sneaky injury in that it builds up over time with no symptoms & then suddenly 'bang" -a "burning" type pain on the front of the knee. Can be slow to heal as tendons do not have the bloodflow that muscles have so certainly a period of rest is required prior to any commencement of rehab. Regular stretching of your quad muscles will help.
