If you’ve been told sciatica is just a “trapped nerve,” you’re not alone. In clinic, it’s rarely that simple.

What I often see is a combination of things happening at the same time — tight glute muscles, an irritated piriformis, local inflammation, and a sensitised sciatic nerve all feeding into one another. That’s why symptoms can persist even when people stretch or rest.

This is where acupuncture can be very effective. Rather than focusing on the nerve alone, treatment aims to:

Help muscles release

Settle inflammation

Calm the nervous system’s pain response

In this session, I also used supportive therapies to work alongside the acupuncture:
✨ Cupping to release deeper muscle tension and improve local circulation
✨ Gentle heat to warm the area, ease stiffness, and support tissue recovery

Together, these approaches are designed to reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve and interrupt the pain cycle.

Sciatica often needs more than stretching alone. It usually responds best when the nervous system settles, muscles let go, and inflammation is given a chance to calm.

Always good to hear how someone feels the following day — especially when pain has been interfering with sleep for a long time.

When Anxiety Hits, It Doesn’t Always Look the Same

For some people, anxiety shows up as images in the mind — worst-case scenarios, replaying moments, seeing everything that could go wrong.

For others, it’s the noise — a busy mind that won’t switch off, constant “what if” thoughts, an inner voice that won’t settle.
