Pier to Peer 2020‘Language, Landscape & Migration’

Piers have a fascinating place in Irish communities and culture. This Small Towns Big Ideas initiative focuses on 4 piers in the townland of Kinvara, each with their own unique history and sense of place: Kinvara, Crushoa, Parkmore and Ceibh a’ Lochain (NewTown Lynch).

A series of community initiatives are planned: 1. Wild Atlantic Women, Women’s International Weekend (March), 2. Crushoa and Ceibh a’ Lochain (NewTown Lynch) piers during the Cuckoo Festival (May) 3. Parkmore and Kinvara piers during Cruinniú mBád (August).

Wild Atlantic Women will launch our activities on 7th and 8th of March involving a winterage Burren walk, new moon swim, seaweed baths, yoga, a talk with Ruth Fitzmaurice author ‘I Found my Tribe’ in conversation with Lelia Doolan, film producer, culminating in a swim and celebration at Traught Beach.

Projects involving the people and history of our piers, using story telling, film, art, music, craftsmanship and contemporary dance are planned for May and August.
