Let’s talk about mental health language. Because words matter more than we think.

Terms like triggered, gaslighting, narcissist, and boundaries and others are everywhere online. And honestly. They’re often misused.

For example being “triggered” isn’t just feeling annoyed. It’s a nervous system response linked to trauma, anxiety, or past experiences that overwhelm your ability to regulate.

Or gaslighting isn’t someone who is disagreeing with you. It’s a repeated pattern of manipulation that makes someone doubt their reality.

When we misuse these terms, we dilute their meaning. We also risk invalidating real mental health experiences.

Therapy helps you understand these concepts properly. It helps you name what’s actually happening, regulate your emotions, and respond instead of react.

At Peace Inside, we help people untangle the language around mental health and reconnect with what’s really going on underneath. Clarity creates relief. And relief creates space to heal.

This kind of feedback never gets old💫 🎉 .

We’re genuinely grateful when someone takes the time to share their experience of therapy. It means even more knowing how vulnerable it can feel to start and to trust the process.

Thank you🫶 for trusting us and for allowing us to walk alongside you on your journey.

Supporting someone as they find their feet, reconnect with themselves, and feel safe enough to show up fully is the heart of the work we do.

Therapy isn’t about fixing anyone. It’s about creating a space where you can be honest, curious, and human. A space where you don’t have to explain yourself or hold it all together.

At Peace Inside, we’re really proud of our therapists and the care they bring into the room every day. We’re also proud of the people who choose to begin this work. That step matters.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy, support is here when you’re ready.

We’re currently welcoming new clients in Galway.

Thank you again for your kind words! They mean more than you know...

The Upside Down in Stranger Things isn’t just a creepy parallel world.
It’s what happens when something dangerous is ignored, pushed away, or left unspoken.

And honestly. Trauma works the same way.

In the show, the Upside Down doesn’t disappear because people pretend it isn’t there. It grows. Quietly. In the background. Until it starts leaking into real life.
That’s often how trauma shows up in therapy.

Anxiety with no clear cause.
Big reactions that feel confusing or out of proportion.
Emotional numbness.
Always on edge.
Always scanning.
Always ready.

Because your nervous system learned survival.

Characters like Eleven and even Vecna remind us of this in very different ways. Trauma shapes behaviour. Power. Fear. Control. Silence. Connection. Healing.

The difference isn’t who was hurt. It’s who had support.

Therapy isn’t about reliving the past or “getting over it”. Therapy is one of the places where the Upside Down gets brought into the light, slowly and safely.
It’s about helping your body and brain realise the danger is over.
You’re here now. You’re safer now. You don’t have to fight alone.

And just like in Stranger Things…
Healing happens in connection. Not isolation.

At Peace Inside, we work at your pace, with curiosity and care, helping your nervous system settle and your story make sense again. You don’t have to explain everything perfectly or know where to start. You just have to show up. We’ll take it from there.

🤍 We're here when you're ready to talk.

Sometimes the hardest part of change isn’t fear.
It’s familiarity.

It is very common in therapy - people stay in situations that hurt because they’re predictable. Old patterns. Old relationships. Old stories about who you are and what you should tolerate. The cage isn’t locked, but your nervous system doesn’t trust what’s outside it yet.

That doesn’t mean you’re weak.
It means you have adapted.

When you’ve lived with anxiety, trauma, emotional neglect, or chronic stress, your body learns that familiar pain feels safer than unfamiliar freedom. Healing often starts when you realise this isn’t self-sabotage. It’s protection that no longer fits your life.

Growth doesn’t happen through forcing yourself to leap.
It happens through curiosity.
Through asking what taught you this was safety.
Through learning that you can move slowly and still move forward.

You don’t need to fly today.
You just need to notice the door exists.

That awareness alone is change.

Ok, let’s normalise this🧐 .

Not everyone looks forward to family time.
For many people, it’s not cosy or joyful. It’s tense. Draining. Loaded with history that shows up before the starters.

Old roles come back fast. The fixer. The peacekeeper. The one who gets labelled before they even sit down. Add expectations, alcohol, and zero boundaries and your nervous system is suddenly on full alert.

If family gatherings leave you exhausted or doubting yourself, that makes sense. It doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful. It means relationships carry memory.

Common reasons it feels heavy.
Unspoken conflict.
Passive aggression dressed as humour.
Pressure to be who you used to be.

What might help?
🌟 Shorter visits.
🌟 Stepping outside for air using a simple excuse.
🌟Sitting near the people who feel safest.
🌟Giving yourself permission to leave early, if you wish.

You’re allowed to protect your mental health.
Even at Christmas🎄 .
Especially then.

The holidays can feel like a strange mix of cosy moments and quiet pressure.
Half of us are trying to enjoy the lights… and the other half are wondering how we got put in charge of everything again. 🎄😅

It's ok to make this season smaller, softer, and simpler if that’s what you need.

✨ More of:
connection
rest
kindness
moments that actually feel like you

🚫 Less of:
obligations that drain you
pressure to make everything “perfect”
comparing your life to someone’s highlight reel
spending beyond what feels safe

If something brings you peace, keep it.
If something tightens your chest the moment you think about it… you’re allowed to set it down.

There is no “right” way to do Christmas.
There is only one way that supports your wellbeing, your nervous system, and your heart.

And if this season feels heavy or overwhelming, you’re not doing it wrong, you taking care of yourself too. ❤️

If you’re missing someone this Christmas, I hope you take a second to breathe.
This time of year has a sneaky way of making the ache a little louder, even when you thought you were doing okay.

And honestly… that’s normal.
Missing someone doesn’t mean you’re “stuck” or “not over it.”
It just means your heart remembers.

You don’t have to pretend you’re fine because it’s December.
You don’t have to force joy because everyone else seems cheerful.
You don’t have to hide the lump in your throat when a song or a smell hits you out of nowhere.

Grief shows up in strange ways and sometimes it’s tears, sometimes it’s numbness, sometimes it’s laughing at a memory you didn’t expect to think about today.
All of it counts.
All of it is valid.

Do whatever feels right for you this season. Light a candle. Talk about them. Say their name. Or keep it private and quiet, that’s allowed too.

And just in case no one has said this:
You’re doing better than you think.
Missing someone doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you human. ❤️

Let’s be honest: “Cheer up, it’s Christmas!” has never magically improved anyone’s mood.
If anything, it adds a little sprinkle of guilt on top of whatever they were already feeling.

The truth is, the holidays can be weird. Beautiful and messy. Comforting and overwhelming. Full of love and full of pressure and sometimes all on the same day.

If someone you love is struggling, you don’t have to fix it.

Just try saying something that sounds like an actual human and not a glitter-covered motivational poster.

Little things like “I get it,” or “Do you want company or quiet?” can make someone breathe easier.

There’s nothing wrong with them for finding this season heavy.

And there’s nothing wrong with you for wanting to show up in a gentler way.

✨ Soft reminder: Validation > forced positivity. Every single time.

Which one of these phrases feels most natural to you?

08/12/2025

Some days it feels like life is just one big to-do list: heal your childhood wounds, answer your emails, drink your water, try not to spiral… repeat.

But honestly? You also need moments that make you laugh, or at least breathe a bit deeper.

Fun is not childish.
Fun is how your nervous system remembers it’s alive and not a laptop that keeps overheating.

A small moment counts.
A silly dance in your kitchen, that counts too!
That one hobby you do terribly but love anyway? Also counts.

If this season feels heavy or stressful, choose one tiny thing today that makes you feel human again.
Not productive. Not “working on yourself.”
Just… you.

✨ Mini reminder: You’re allowed joy even while you’re healing. Those things can exist together, I promise.

What’s one little thing that brings you joy lately?

Drop it in the comments, and you might give someone else an idea.

07/12/2025

Holiday burnout is real. And no, you’re not “being dramatic,” you’re being human. Somewhere between the twinkly lights, the endless plans, and the emotional Olympics of December, your nervous system might be begging for a breather. 🎄😅

Holiday stress hits hard. Add in the pressure to enjoy every second… and suddenly even fun things start to feel like a chore.

Maybe you’re dreading plans you should be excited about. Maybe you’re so tired that rest doesn’t fix it. Maybe the festive season anxiety is louder than the Christmas music. That doesn’t mean you’re failing at the holidays. It means you’re overloaded.

Here’s your gentle reminder: you’re allowed to slow down. You’re allowed to do less. You’re allowed to say “not this year.” Protecting your peace is valid self-care, not a crime against Christmas cheer. ❄️✨

And if this season is hitting deeper layers : emotional exhaustion, old triggers, family stress, therapy can help you navigate it with way more clarity and way less overwhelm.

You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through December.
