ORTHOCERAS FOSSIL 🐌

This stunning piece is a polished black limestone slab featuring several fossilized Orthoceras. These fossils are from the Paleozoic era, often dating back to the Ordovician period about 400 to 450 million years ago, and are commonly sourced from Morocco.

Orthoceras were marine cephalopods, ancestors to modern squid and nautilus, known for their long, straight, conical shells. The fossils appear white or light gray against the dark limestone matrix because the chambers of the shell were filled with minerals over time.
