🙏𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀🙏
With so many heartbreaking stories in the news each day, it’s easy to become desensitized to the struggles people face. But at MADRA, we’re reminded daily that behind every dog in need, there’s often a human story too. Issues like homelessness, domestic abuse, mental health challenges, and financial hardship don’t just affect people—they directly impact their pets as well. More and more, we find ourselves supporting not just the dogs, but the people who love them.💔
When Mary (not her real name) reached out to us with her story, we knew we had to help. When her relationship broke down, like so many dog owners, she found herself unable to find accommodation that would allow her to keep her beloved dogs, Odie and Nell. Rather than hand her dogs over to strangers, Mary made the heart-breaking decision to set up a home for the three of them in a tent, while she continued to look for a pet-friendly rental property.🐾
Mary had become another statistic in the growing number of people experiencing homelessness. It’s an incredibly vulnerable and precarious way to live—especially because none of the services that work with homeless people are in a position to help their pets. As a result, Mary, Odie, and Nell have been stuck in limbo, unable to move forward. In itself, this is a tragic story, but Mary's situation has now become dangerous and unsustainable as she is pregnant and due to give birth within the next few weeks.
We are urgently seeking a long-term foster home for Odie and Nell so Mary can safely prepare for the birth of her baby and focus on securing permanent accommodation. Our kennels are full with stray dogs needing care, so we’re reaching out in the hope that someone in Galway can provide a safe, loving temporary home for these two little dogs until they can all be reunited again.
Odie and Nell are small, two-year-old dogs. They get along well with other dogs. We’re unsure how they are with cats or children. Ideally, we’re looking for a foster placement of at least three months. MADRA will provide full support throughout the foster period.🙏
This little family has already endured so much—clinging to each other for warmth, comfort, and survival on the margins of society. Now, more than ever, they need compassion and a helping hand.
If you think you could be that safe haven for Odie and Nell, please fill in a fostering questionnaire & we'll be in touch⬇️
