STUDY FINDS THAT CHRONIC STRESS CAN SHRINK YOUR BRAIN (BUT HELP IS AVAILABLE)

by Dr Bhatti
M.B.B.S.D.C.H.R.C.P.S.I

A large Swedish study, involving more than two thousand people, including both men and women, found a relationship between the high levels of cortisol (stress hormone) in the blood and the thinning of the brain.

The people with a higher level of cortisol also showed symptoms such as bad memory. This is not the only study which found chronic stress having the effect on the size of our brains, another study conducted in 2017 showed a similar effect related to chronic work stress. And they also found that it could be reversed by giving workers respite and with the help of cognitive therapy.

One theory why stress has become so toxic in recent times is lifestyle. In our clinic, Dr Bhatti has been practising Lifestyle Medicine and Gut Health and Microbiome Restoration for more than 25 years to help with emotional stress, physical stress and stress related disorders using a combination of Complementary Therapies with excellent results.

Holistic Health & Stress Clinic is now at URBAN wellbeing, Tuam Road, Galway, Ireland .

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME(IBS) – A NATURAL APPROACH

By Dr Bhatti
M.B.B.S.D.C.H.R.C.P.S.I.

Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common disorders in Western cultures. Symptoms of this condition include abdominal pain or cramping and changes in bowel function including bloating, gas, alternating diarrhoea and constipation and mucus in stools. Severity of symptoms may vary considerably depending on lifestyle and diet. Pain can be acute, chronic, functional, organic or referred.

Unlike more serious intestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease which cause inflammation or changes in bowel tissue or increase your risk of colorectal cancer IBS can (in many cases) be controlled and improved by managing your diet, lifestyle, stress levels and especially by restoring your Gut health and Microbiome we get excellent in our clinic.

Some researchers believe IBS is caused by changes in the nerves that control sensation or muscle contractions in the bowel. Others believe the central nervous system may affect the colon. Women are two to three times as likely as men to have IBS so hormonal changes may also play a role. Many women find that signs and symptoms are worse during or around their menstrual periods. Many factors can affect the severity of symptoms such as psychological factors, your circumstances even the attitude of relatives and friends.

After your doctor has ruled out any serious illness, controlling diet is extremely important for IBS suffers. Many people find that their signs and symptoms worsen when they eat certain foods ie. chocolate, milk and alcohol. Stress will also exacerbate IBS and sometimes other illnesses such as an acute gastroenteritis can trigger IBS.

Main focus of Complementary approach to IBS will be on prevention. Staying away from or resolving some of the triggers that cause IBS can in many circumstances remedy the problem. Reduce stress through counselling or some form of relaxation such as yoga, massage or reflexology.

IN OUR CLINIC WE USE A MULTI PRONGED APPROACH IN TREATING THIS AND MANY OTHER CONDITIONS WITH NATURAL THERAPIES SUCH AS LOW DOSE MEDICINE (L.D.M), GUT HEALTH AND MICROBIOME RESTORATION, NUTRITIONAL AND NUTRACEUTICAL THERAPIES, LIFESTYLE MEDICINE, NATURAL HORMONAL BALANCING, GLANDULAR SUPPORT, SOFT TISSUE AND JOINT SUPPORT, HERBALS AND NEEDLE FREE LASER ACUPUNCTURE TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENT RESULTS

RELATIONSHIP DISHARMONY CAN HARM YOUR GUT HEALTH AND MICROBIOME (NEW FINDINGS)

by Dr Bhatti
M.B.B.S.D.C.H.R.C.P.S.I.

New research suggests that upheaval in a martial or any other relationship can give rise to a whole host of gut related symptoms, increasing the risk of leaky gut syndrome especially if you have a history of anxiety and depression.

Some of the most sensitive topics in martial relationships are money, infidelity and in-laws which can have a devastating effect on mind and health.
Normally our healthy gut lining forms a natural barrier to prevent bad bugs from reaching inside our intestines. But when this lining becomes weak and some cracks and holes appear due to bad bugs especially some fungi (Candida) other pathogens and food waste particles can get into the bloodstream which may lead to inflammation which in turn can lead to an overall change in the gut eco-system. This may lead to a condition called Leaky Gut Syndrome, which has been linked to other conditions such as:

• Anxiety/Depression
• Obesity
• Mental Health issues
• Cancer

In our clinic we use a multi pronged approach in treating this and many other conditions with complementary therapies such as Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M), Gut Health and Microbiome restoration, Micro-immunotherapy, Nutritional and Nutraceutical therapies, Lifestyle Medicine, Natural Hormonal Balancing, Glandular support, Soft tissue and joint support, Herbals, and Needle free Medical Acupuncture, Therapeautic Mindfulness and CBT techniques to achieve excellent results.

CHRONIC STRESS CAN EFFECT NEARLY EVERY ORGAN IN OUR BODY (COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES CAN OFFER SOME RELIEF)

By Dr Bhatti
M.B.B.S DCH RCPSI

Stress is an everyday part of life. If you are suffering from acute or chronic medical conditions there would be some degree of anxiety and stress related to it. Over 75% of our Primary Care doctor visits are due to stress related illness.

Stress can be triggered by events or circumstances in anyone's life such as bereavement, relationship breakdown, financial problems, exams, adverse working conditions, bullying, injury, after giving birth, after an accident, after any trauma, if you are suffering from a chronic painful condition, or any prolonged illness.

Chronic and prolonged stress leads to higher levels of stress hormones which in turn can lead to higher levels of inflammatory cytokines(messenger cells), resulting in chronic inflammation in our body and brain and has the capability of affecting nearly every organ in our body, sometimes leading to Autoimmune Disorders or other stress related illnesses such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, paralysis, depression, digestive disorders, skin diseases, cancer and much more, thats why it is important to consult your G.P first to rule out any serious illness or before starting any regime.

Many of us do not associate our symptoms with a response to some ongoing stress in our daily life. That's why it is essential to identify the early signs of stress and do something about it in order to avoid the sometimes devastating but avoidable consequences.

Recent findings confirm that stress is a factor in five out of six major causes of death-Heart disease, Stroke, Cancer, Lower respiratory disease, and Accidents.

Yoga ,reflexology, and massage can be beneficial in the management of stress.

ATHLETE’S FOOT CAN AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF AN ATHLETE (COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES CAN BRING RELIEF)

By Dr Bhatti
M.B.B.S.D.C.H.R.C.P.S.I.

Athlete’s foot is a condition where skin in between the toes and the side of the foot is inflamed and infected with fungus, it is usually red raw with weepy skin and blisters. The medical name for Athlete’s foot is Tinea Pedis, you could pick up this condition in locker rooms, gyms, swimming pools, communal showers especially when walking barefoot. It can also spread directly from person to person. In the defence forces this condition is also known as Jungle Rot.

Signs and Symptoms: In the majority of cases the feet could be smelly or just dry skin but it can progress to burning and stinging if not treated and can sometimes be unbearable and affect the performance of an athlete. In more severe cases cracking with pain and itching between the toes with blisters. Nails could also get infected.

Is athlete’s foot contagious? Potentially yes, but some individuals are more susceptible than others. Especially people who sweat excessively and diabetics.

Usual treatment: dry, clean environment for the feet, antiperspirants are used, doctors also recommend bathing your feet in Barrows solution but it is advisable before starting any treatment to consult your G.P for diagnoses and treatment.

Home remedies: some shampoos, Epsom salts, some people use diluted white vinegar but please do not try this or any other treatment without asking your doctor.

In more severe cases your doctor might advise local or oral anti fungals especially when nails are involved. Other complications include spreading to other areas of the body or to other people. Other natural remedies are Tea tree oil etc.

Foods that can be good are: probiotic cultures, green leafy vegetables, nuts, avacadoes, salmon, ginger, garlic, asparagus, fresh mint and red wine in moderation.

Lifestyle changes such as mild exercise daily such as walking, mindfulness, counselling and swimming might help relieve pain. A combination of complementary treatments such as Restoration of gut health, physiological regulating medicine, mindfulness, and careful use of essential oils can produce results.

In our clinic we use a multi pronged approach in treating many conditions with natural therapies such as Micro-immunotherapy, Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M), Gut Health and Microbiome restoration, Nutritional and Nutraceutical therapies, Lifestyle Medicine, Natural Hormonal Balancing, Glandular support, Soft tissue and joint support, Herbals, and Needle free Medical Acupuncture, Therapeautic Mindfulness and CBT techniques to achieve excellent results.

SCIENTISTS LINK THE ABSENCE OF CERTAIN GUT BACTERIA IN PATIENTS WITH DEPRESSION (AN IMPORTANT FINDING)

Researchers from VIB – Ku Leuven Centre of Microbiology, Belgium by analysing the health data of a large group they have identified the bacteria which may play a role in depression.

The findings appeared in the journal Nature Microbiology in which they named the bacteria producing substances which interacted with the nervous system. These bacteria are known as neuroactive and were identified as genera coprococcus and dialister a remarkable finding.

The scientist found these bacteria were absent from the gut of the patients suffering from depression including the patients who were being actively treated and were on anti-depression medication.

Also in the gut of the people with depression, they found a bacteria usually found in the gut of people suffering from Crohn’s disease (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) pointing towards may be an inflammatory connection?

That’s why Dr Bhatti believes in the importance of a healthy gut and a healthy Microbiome for our physical as well as mental wellbeing. Thats why he believes those people who are suffering from depression or any other illness their gut health and gut microbiome status should always be evaluated and corrected if possible. In his complementary clinic Dr Bhatti has been treating Gut Health and Dysbiosis ( imbalance between good and bad bacteria ) since 1989 .

In Dr Bhatti’s clinic he uses a multi pronged approach in treating many conditions only with complementary, natural and safe therapies such as Gut Health and Microbiome Restoration, Physiological Regulating Medicine (P.R.M), Nutritional and Nutraceutical therapies, Lifestyle Medicine, Natural Hormonal Balancing, Glandular support, Soft tissue and joint support, Complex Homeopathy, Herbals, and Needle free Medical Acupuncture, Therapeautic Mindfulness and CBT techniques to achieve excellent results.
