A lot of people think once a relationship ends, that’s it.
That things should start to feel a bit easier.

But for many women, it’s not always that straightforward.

There’s what’s been experienced over time,
and then there’s what comes after.

Trying to move forward while still carrying some of the impact of it all.
Sometimes dealing with situations that can bring things back up again.

It can feel overwhelming at times, and often quite isolating.

This is something I work with.

Supporting women who are navigating the effects of abusive relationships,
and what can follow on from that.

A lot of people think about reaching out…
and then leave it.

They tell themselves
“I’ll be grand”
“I’ll deal with it myself”
“Sure it’s not that bad”

And sometimes, you can carry on like that for a long time.

But it can also quietly build in the background,
stress, anxiety, things going on at home
that don’t really get a chance to be talked through.

One of the things people often say after coming in is how straightforward it feels.

A conversation.
A bit of space to actually say what’s going on.
And someone there to listen, properly.

There’s no pressure with it.

You’re free to come in, talk things through,
and equally, you’re free to come back again if and when you need to.

You know the way you can be grand one minute…
and then something small happens,
and suddenly you’ve snapped?

Maybe you raise your voice.
Or walk off.
And later on, you feel awful about it.

Most people think that’s just “anger.”
But it’s rarely that simple.

A lot of the time, it’s things building up.

Stress.
Being wrecked.
Or certain things hitting a nerve
without you even realising.

It’s not that there’s something wrong with you.

It’s usually a sign that something’s been sitting there for a while.

What actually helps isn’t judging yourself for it…
but understanding it.
