Mindfulness Galway

Mindfulness Galway Mindfulness Galway offers Mindfulness training for the purpose of stress reduction, improved health, increased effectiveness and life satisfaction.

Mindfulness is now recognized as a powerful tool for dealing with stress, chronic pain, and many other medical and psychological conditions. Mindfulness is about paying attention and is a way of being more deeply present to your body, your thoughts, and your emotions. It involves learning to work with what’s already here, in a less reactive, less judgmental way. It’s about living your life in the richness of right now, not being lost in memories of the past or overwhelmed by the worries or projections of the future. Though we all have moments of mindfulness, often we are more familiar with mindlessness, when we operate on “automatic pilot” and are distracted from what is actually happening – both around us, and in our own bodies, minds, and hearts. When driving, we may be thinking about a TV program from the previous night. We might be shopping while talking on the phone or cleaning while daydreaming.

Sometimes in teaching meditation we say, "Sit like a mountain. Sit with a sense of strength and dignity. Be steadfast, be majestic, be natural and at ease in awareness. No matter how many winds are blowing, no matter how many clouds are swirling, no matter how many lions are prowling, be intimate with everything and sit like a mountain." This is an image of equanimity. We feel everything, without exception, and we relate to it through our own strength of awareness, not through habitual reactions.

What do you value?

What do you value?

We believe money is the ultimate source of happiness. But if I value inner happiness, even if I am poor, I may be happier than a billionaire. The attitude of our whole society is to place too much emphasis on the value of material things, and not to pay sufficient attention to inner values. I think that’s a mistake. It’s helpful to discuss these things to create a broader understanding of human happiness.
