AcuGlow Acupuncture Clinic

AcuGlow Acupuncture Clinic Acupuncture clinic in the heart of Galway City. Treating degenerative eye conditions, chronic pain,

Hello, my name is Helen Falvey, acupuncturist, and owner of AcuGlow Acupuncture Clinic. My goal with my work is to help as many people as possible live their lives in the best health they can, free of pain, happier, sleeping better, and even preserving their eyesight into the future. I chose acupuncture as a career because it helped me so much when I really needed it when I was younger. I completed my initial acupuncture training over 3 years at The Acupuncture Foundation in Dublin, and have completed many extra training courses in the 5+ years that I have been in business to ensure the best results and care possible for my clients. There are different types of acupuncture available at the clinic. When we find out a little more about you, we select the most appropriate type, or types, of acupuncture for your treatment. Here are the types of acupuncture used daily in the clinic:
Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture
Auricular Acupuncture
Distal Acupuncture(Master Tung)
Electro-acupuncture
Dry needling(trigger points)
Motor Point(neurofunctional) Acupuncture
Ophthalmic Acupuncture(specialist acupuncture for degenerative eye conditions)

We also include cupping therapy and heat lamp in treatments where indicated.

We are well into Autumn now, we are feeling the shorter days, the cooler temperatures and admiring the beautiful colours of the leaves as they transform and are carried away on the fresh wind.

Some of us want to hold on to that high energy and warmth of Summer, but without Autumn and Winter there will be no Spring and Summer;
Watching these changes of the season, is an invitation to reflection, acceptance, and letting go of what we no longer need.

It is also our invitation to slow down, as we start to leave behind the high energy Yang time of year and enter into the stillness and Yin time of year.

September is PCOS Awareness Month

PCOS is a complex, chronic endocrine condition. Big improvements can be made in symptoms by managing it appropriately. Acupuncture, supplements, a healthy diet, good sleep habits, stress management, and regular exercise are key elements of successfully managing PCOS.

If you have PCOS, it’s important to find healthcare practitioners who understand the condition and will give you supportive treatment. In my clinic I have been successfully treating people with PCOS for many years.

It’s best to treat and manage PCOS as soon as possible and not to wait until you are trying to become pregnant.

How I explain how acupuncture works to new patients

Acupuncture works via our nervous system; when a needle is placed in the body it creates a stimulus to fibres close to nerve branches, this signals into the nerves, up the spinal cord, into the brain, where it initiates a response via activating various parts of the brain to release of neurotransmitters which then have a physiological effect.

The way in which an acupuncture treatment brings about a deep relaxation of the body and the mind is the effect of being placed in a parasympathetic state. The fast pace of modern life often keeps us spending more time in the active - sympathetic, or fight or flight state; this state is needed to function, but too much time in this state is associated with chronic stress and also plays a role in various illnesses. Regular acupuncture allows for more ease in accessing the parasympathetic state, which is our rest and digest state, and also our healing state.

Meet the Acupuncturist/Herbalist

✨1st Post in August Meet the Acupuncturist ✨

A little bit about me ~ I've been living in Galway since 2008 and I am originally from Kerry.

📍I've been in practice for 9 years now, treating a range of conditions, from fertility, gynaecology, pain and injury, insomnia, anxiety, digestive health, and degenerative eye conditions.

🌿I have just completed my 2 year Chinese Herbal Medicine Diploma and I am now offering Chinese Herbal Medicine prescriptions to patients in addition to acupuncture. Herbs are a wonderful addition to acupuncture and can really accelerate and improve results.

🌊 I love living on the West Coast of Ireland and when I'm not working, you'll find me outside in nature by the sea.

🐈🐈 I have two gorgeous cats, Molly, a calico, and Tigs a ginger.

Stay tuned for more August Meet the Acupuncturist posts

Hello everyone,
It's me, Helen, owner and acupuncturist at AcuGlow Acupuncture Clinic, I haven't been posting on here that much as there has been lots happening in the last few months, it has certainly been a challenge balancing running the clinic and completing the final stage of the 2 year Chinese Herbal Medicine Diploma.

Studying Chinese Herbal Medicine has been so interesting and I've learned so much over the last 2 years, and now that my final exam and all my coursework for the Herbs course are done, I'll be back to posting more regularly and sharing with you all the benefits of acupuncture and herbs.

Let me know your questions about acupuncture and herbal medicine in a comment or a DM; looking forward to hearing from you 🌿
