Let's talk about the dreaded bungee.
I've seen first hand the damaging effect the bungee has had on horses through working as a therapist.
I come across over developed splenius muscle and I find horses I've worked with hold so much tension in the poll.
They cause a forced position of the head and neck which then in turn causes stress through to the back.
Not only that but they can force the horse to be more heavy on the forehand.
Below is a horse who suffered with tension in the poll and splenius muscle.

I just wanted to post this.
Please excuse the state of me.
I did the lovely Ronnie. Ronnie is an ex racer and has all the typical signs of a horse who was in training.
We don't always find what we need to on palpation. Sometimes as we work through the horse we see more causes of pain or discomfort.
What i found today was Ronnie was holding tension in his massater, tmj, poll and top of the neck.
I spent a lot of the session working his head and neck areas. Here i am doing his tmj and zygomatic arch.
His owner was amazed at how he was reacting to the treatment. How he was falling asleep.
Sometimes people will question their bit fitting when they can't get their horse to accept contact, when they can't get their horse to engage, when the horse is reacting to what is asked of them
This isn't always the entire problem.
Your horse may hold tension in areas that you don't realise.
Massage therapy is hugely important to the care and well being of your horse. It isn't a luxury, it's a necessity.
After his treatment Ronnie's whole posture had changed.
I'm looking forward to his update from his owner.ππ
Thank you Megan Parkinson for trusting me with Ronnie and allowing me to post this up.
I also loved the giggles π
Another happy client today πππ
Thank you Hannah Barton for trusting me this dude and allowing me to post the video.
As you can see, the horse is licking, chewing and yawning. This is a sign of release from massage therapy.
People ask me how ofter should treatments be done.
Every horse is different. In general I would suggest monthly massage, how ever some horses may need a little more, some a little less. I like to go by the first session and follow up after to see how the horse is doing from their treatment ππ
Benefits of massage for your horse
π Increased suppleness
π Tension relief
π Detoxification
π Aiding muscle recovery
π Increased muscle condition
π Pain relief
π Helps find problems
π Can help tackle psychological problems
Massage can help with so much more too.
