📍Have you noticed your back pain developing more frequently since working from home and self isolating?

As we adjust to these new set of circumstances, consider one or more of these alternative seating or desk options to help your pain. Up first in our series of posts, let's take a look at using standing desks.

🔍There is some research that supports the view that switching between sitting and standing whilst working can help manage chronic back pain and hence the recent popularity of these desks particularly in Tech firms.

✅Standing engages your core muscles more than sitting, and therefore can lead to better posture and spinal alignment.

If you are using a standing desk, follow these tips:

🔶Make sure that your standing desk is raised to a height from which you can work comfortably.

🔶Your arms should be able to bend at a 90-degree angle while you use your computer, and you should be able to look straight ahead at your monitor without tilting your neck down.

🔶Place a thick mat underneath your feet to ease strain on your feet and legs.

🔶Consider using a pedestal or footstool, so you can occasionally shift your weight.

Stay safe everyone!!

Practice Update: Patients in Vulnerable Health Groups please access Free Video/Telephone consults :-)

COVID-19 has created an unprecedented situation for health care providers such as chiropractors where our patients rely upon physical examination and hands on treatment and instruction regarding appropriate exercise to assist their recoveries.

In this time of uncharted territory and massive challenge to our health services in Ireland, our focus is to help and look after our patients in a positive and safe way at this very important time. Some of our patients are in a compromised, high risk category if they were to contract the Corona virus.

We are offering free of charge video/ telephone consultations to help those patients and to ease pressure on our local healthcare services at the moment. This will allow us to advise you and speak to you on ways your pain can be managed or ascertain whether it is an emergency and you need further attention.

It is possible even though it is difficult to conduct a patient examination via video, but this may be the most appropriate and safe way of investigating issues in individuals who are in high risk categories of contracting COVID 19 or for individuals who are self isolating.

Discussion of the nature of your symptoms coupled with examination allows consideration of what may be the best course of action for your problem without placing you at the risk or necessity of leaving your home.

If you should need this service, please message us on FB or call 053 94 83338. Stay safe everyone!

As an increasingly large number of clients are adapting to working at home in the past 10 days, please take a moment to review your work station.

Home work spaces are not necessarily adapted to longer term use and extended use without modification could aggravate existing back or neck pain or even cause these issues to develop.

Stay well everyone!

Dear Patients, we are writing to provide you with a practice update in relation to the escalation of COVID-19 cases in Ireland.

As of Thursday 12th March following close monitoring of the latest HSE, Government and World Health Organisation guidelines, we immediately implemented a series of risk reduction and rigorous preventative measures to protect the health and safety of our patients and staff and to allow continued provision of care in the safest possible environment.

We are operational with strict measures at the moment for those patients who need care. We will update you immediately if this status changes.

We have changed our scheduling and added time buffers so that patients attending for their appointment can go directly to a treatment room on arrival and avoid the waiting room altogether.

Sanitation Measures: Patients are asked to use hand sanitiser on arrival at the clinic, a disinfection point is located immediately on your left on arrival.

Chairs, door handles and any other surfaces you may be in contact with are being being rigorously and regularly disinfected throughout each clinic session.

Treatment tables are disinfected between each patient.

Responsible Self Exclusion: We would kindly ask that if you are experiencing any respiratory symptoms or fever that you do not attend for your appointment. Please contact your GP or HSE helpline if you are concerned by the nature of your symptoms.

Contactless Payment: it is not necessary for patients to touch credit card pin pads, disposable cling film is used on our machine between patients minimising unnecessary contact.

We remain open and will do our best to provide patient care for as long as it is possible to do so in line with HSE guidance. We understand that our practice has a very large base of patients, please feel to contact us by phone if you need advice or if you are in difficulty, we will do our best to advise you in this challenging time. We will endeavour to keep you all updated with exercises and ergonomic tips to support our newly home based workforce.

Our situation will be reviewed daily in line with HSE advice and we will implement all measures as required by government in accordance with their action plan to control transmission of COVID 19. If you have any questions or queries about the measures taken please contact us on 053 9483338

Yours sincerely
Olivia, Michael and all the team at Gorey Family Chiropractic Clinic

Do you suffer from osteoarthritis (OA) of knee, or know someone who does? If you have mild to moderate osteoarthritis of your knee, did you know you can significantly benefit from specific knee and hip rehabilitation exercises to strengthen your damaged knee and help you move, walk stand and get up those stairs better.
Other options can include the introduction of an orthotic (medical grade insole) into the shoes which can often help reduce stress on the damaged knee joint and offer much needed support and increased shock absorption to the damaged knee.

By performing a physical assessment and reviewing your history and any x-rays, our chiropractors can determine what effective non surgical options exist to help you reduce your pain and improve your movement thereby improving your quality of life.

💥Many lower limb problems are due to over-use and poor movement patterns from your feet.

A custom made orthotic ( commonly known as an shoe insole) can help break this cycle of dysfunction so you can start healing and recover.

Orthotics help offer your feet much improved support, balance and correct abnormalities such as your feet rolling inwards/ outwards as you walk or run. Orthotics are often medically reccommended for those with recurrent ankle sprains/ instability, knee osteoarthritis, bunions and achilles tendonitis.

If you concerned about an abnormality with your feet or have pain that has persisted for several weeks/months or in some instances longer, arrange a consultation with one of our experienced chiropractors where they will assess the need or benefits to be gained from custom made orthotics specific to your own individual requirements following consideration of your history and diagnosis.
