The ‘Infant Of Prague’ spent the night under the hedges! The result was great! We had a lovely afternoon of sunshine for our Annual Fundraising BBQ in Gowran Abbey Nursing Home!
Thank you to all who made it such a wonderful event!! The Music, Fun, Laughter and Craic was great in the sunshine and enjoyed by all!

Special thanks to ‘Carlow’s Own’ - John Kelly for his musical talents and generous donation to our Charitable Cause! Likewise to Wesley from for providing the great food as always; and also for leaving a generous donation behind!

Thanks also, to all our friends and visitors for coming to support and share the day with us – and to all of you who donated so generously!

Our chosen charity this year is The Carlow / Kilkenny Homecare Team who provide such a wonderful service in our Community.

Sadly, some of us have needed their services more than others during the past year and nobody could ever deny what a wonderful group of Angels work among us - they truly are very special people.

When presenting the donation this year, we will be requesting that the funds go directly to the staff who visit families in the Community. We hope that it will be used by them to take time for a social event of their own to ‘wind down’ from their daily working lives where they share so much of the sadness felt by their Clients and Families.
It’s a small gesture – but a token of sincere and heartfelt thanks from all of us, and especially from those of us who came to know them personally during the past 12 months.

Thanks to Martin and his Team for working so hard at the preparations and making sure everything went smoothly; and to all our great Team of Staff who, as always, put ‘their shoulders to the wheel’ to make sure that everybody was well cared for a had an enjoyable day!

Thank you also to Minister Jennifer Murnane O'Connor (Department of Health) who visits us frequently as our Residents' Advocate - but always makes a point of supporting our fundraising events.

Last, but most certainly not least - Thank You so much to our ‘Gowran Abbey Family’ - our Residents - those who have chosen to spend their lives with us as ‘Family’ - THEY are the reason we love, we laugh, we care - THEY are the most important people in our daily lives and we love each one of them - Thank You for being part of our lives in Gowran Abbey!

Finally - save the date for next year Folks – the last Saturday of July when we hope to do it all again! 😊 Sharing a snapshot of todays BBQ event – more to follow on Our Resident’s FB Forum Page!

This week it's Loneliness Awareness Week.

We know that if you are living with dementia, or supporting a partner or family member who is, it can sometimes feel very lonely.

At Alzheimer's Society, we are here for everyone affected by dementia. You can call our Dementia Support Line on 0333 150 3456 where our trained staff are ready to give you the support you need and advise you about support local to you.

It can also help to talk to your friends, family or those around you about the way you are feeling. A chat and a listening ear can make a difference.

You may like to join our Dementia Support Forum - a helpful online community where anyone who is affected by dementia can receive valuable support. It's free, open day or night, and can be accessed online: http://spkl.io/6184fAUVj
