It’s my job as a therapist to give clients the tools that will help them when they are feeling stressed, anxious or experiencing mental health issues that arise from difficult situations. Little did I know when writing this post in May 24 that I would be needing those tools when my husband died suddenly in September 24. I’ve always been an advocate of practice what you preach and I can honestly say that they have helped me navigate this journey and keep me motivated and focused and also healthy. It hasn’t been easy, and unfortunately somethings in our lifetime aren’t but having these tools have certainly helped me and can help you too.

The one thing that is certain, is throughout our lives we are going to go through difficult situations that we have to navigate through.

What’s not certain, is how we cope during these times.

Many times we hear people say “ stay positive “
“ it will get better “ “ look on the bright side “ or people stay away because they don’t know what to say!

But it’s not easy to be positive or look on the bright side and it’s not easy to see that it will get better.

One thing that helps my clients is learning to take control of thoughts and feelings and to let go of trying to control things that are outside of their control. We can’t control what happens to others or situations that suddenly happen but you can control how you react to them.

It’s been a while since I posted and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for supporting me while I took time out to grieve my husband, it’s been quite a rollercoaster of emotions and frustrations along this journey that was thrust upon me but I’ve learnt new skills and found inner strength that has helped me get through the most challenging and difficult times.

Grief is a very personal thing and everyone will have their own story to tell , it will also depend on your relationship with that person and also the communication you had with them.

One thing I’ve learnt is you soon find out who is really there for you, words are one thing but actions speak louder and I can’t thank those people enough for being there, you all know who you are .

People are afraid of talking about death but it’s important that you do, let your loved know what you want when you die, make a will, it makes a huge difference to your loved ones life when your gone and actually saves you money .

If you’re grieving, it’s normal to go through so many different emotions , to feel lost and alone, to feel helpless, and so much more.

Reach out to your loved one’s for support and don’t be afraid to ask for help, one step at a time, one day at a time, it’s not an easy journey and if anyone needs help please reach out .

I’ve pushed myself to exercise, to meditate, to go for walks in nature, to paint, to do things that have helped me get through the darkest of days and I’ve learnt that I’m far more capable than I gave myself credit for and I know that Martin would be so proud of me .

Relationships are important for our wellbeing, friends, family , community, intimate relationship’s are what gives us a sense of belonging and safety.

Healthy relationships give us support, encouragement, make us feel worthy and are there through all the ups and downs that life throws at us and to feel valued.

We need to have control of what is happening to us and around us.

To give and receive attention from family, friends etc.

And to have a purpose and meaning in our lives by pushing ourselves both mentally and physically by learning new things with encouragement from those around us.

If you have all of the above, it gives us a sense of pride and accomplishment because it means , believing in ourselves and raises our self esteem and confidence to go that extra mile , knowing that you have support gives us that feeling of pride in what you do.

Having time for yourself is essential for your wellbeing too, to take time out to evaluate and care for yourself.

My clients tell me that they feel so much better after first session, that I understand them and they feel so relaxed when leaving.

I understand the importance of listening, watching, while my clients talk, this enables me to truly understand what my clients are saying, wanting, and sometimes it’s just the talking that unburden them and that instantly makes them feel better.

Today more than ever people from all walks of life are struggling, anxiety and mental health problems are increasing, most people don’t realise that this leads to physical illness such as high blood pressure, digestive problems, headaches, skin problems and heart problems.

Sleep disorders are part of the process and again many don’t realise the importance of a good nights sleep and how lack of sleep impacts our mental and physical health

We all know the motto, “ it’s good to talk” but it’s not uncommon for people to fear seeking help for many reasons that stop them

I’m also not a believer in giving people labels because many will use this to behave in ways that are not healthy and also as an excuse to behave that way .

Ever client that I take , I tell them , you have to want change , you have to put in the work, time and effort and then I will agree to work with them otherwise your wasting your time and money.

The therapy is simple , effective with quick results.

Take a deep breath and take that first step to help your self and make the changes that will transform your life.

Bad habits have a way of creeping up on you . And leave you feeling

Guilty, ashamed, bad, angry, remoresful, depressed, stressed, anxious and many more feelings that exhaust you and makes you feel down so you reach for that habit again to get that high or buzz it gives you for a short time.

Drugs, alcohol, to***co, food, shopping, gaming, work, phones, tv, weight, are just a few of the things that can be addictive and leave you feeling BAD. Any Habit that is causing you or others around you problems is problematic and leads to mental and physical illnesses!!
