Some words of gratitude and admiration!
I was never a big social media person and only started
using Instagram a few months ago when I knew I needed to,
both expand the range of my information sources as well as
taking a stand and making my position known in relation to
the situation in Palestine.
I’ve been wanting to say it for ages -
I have the highest respect for the,
mostly young, Jewish activists who have been standing up
for justice in the last few months.
And many of them already long before that.
It is so difficult to break free from our preconditioned belief systems and from the long held socialised identity that we think makes us who we are.
I live in Ireland. Here it is easy to openly support Palestine.
Fighting an oppressive colonial power is part of the Irish identity.
Watching https://www.israelismfilm.com/ and hear, I think it was Simone Zimmerman describe how she had to regularly face family, friends and friends’ parents, who were hurling abuse at her for, apparently betraying her Jewish heritage -
I am full of admiration for the strength and integrity of this young woman and her peers!
Who dug much deeper into what their Jewishness meant for them rather than following blindly what they’d been taught by their system.
Such courage to uproot your foundation in order to build a better, juster world for all!
In all this horror - there is great hope because of you!!
